Five years.

It’s crazy how 5 years can feel like it went by so fast, while also feeling like it’s been forever.

Five years ago, I lost my mom from complications after what was supposed to be a routine back surgery. It was especially hard because Daisy had just been born in July and had to spend 16 days in the NICU.

Because of Covid restrictions in 2021, my mom wasn’t able to visit her before her back surgery. She never got to hold her, meet her, or know her here on earth.

That has always been one of the hardest parts for me because my Mom really loved being a grandma. She adored Violet and couldn’t wait for Daisy to be born. Looking back on the way she loved Violet makes it even harder knowing she never got the chance to have that same bond with Daisy.

But as Daisy has gotten older, I see so much of my mom in her. Their personalities, their stubbornness, their little quirks…there are so many moments where I catch myself thinking, “Yep, there’s my mom.”

Sometimes I think maybe they did meet after all. Maybe they met in heaven before Daisy ever got the chance to meet her here. And maybe my mom has been looking out for her all along.

I wish more than anything they could have met in this life. But I find a lot of peace in believing that somehow, they know each other.
