Amy Komar Zip Zap, Mother Oil in mid-century glass decanter Frankincense and Myrrh resin infused Castor oil and Jojoba oil, Rosehip seed oil, Vitamin E (preservative) Electrical light, natural light, its absence and abundance—all profoundly shape how we experience life in the North.” For Komar, light is both a physical force and a seasonal rhythm. The dramatic shift of light in Alaska influence the body, the landscape, and our sense of time. With the waning light of the season upon us, this collection became an opportunity to honor and preserve the abundance of spring and summer. Through Switch Witch, Komar translates that abundance into sensory ritual. Slow solar infusions of cottonwood buds in apricot oil, roses gathered from the flanks of Kenai Lake, wild bushy chamomile growing at her feet, and last year’s fireweed and garden calendula are among the botanical materials woven into these small-batch, limited offerings. Each face oil and bath soak holds a trace of a particular season, landscape, and moment of gathering. In this work, light becomes something that can be absorbed, infused, preserved, and carried forward—a way of tending to the body and spirit through the long turning of the northern year. Amy Komar is a multidisciplinary artist based in Homer, Alaska. Working across visual, sensory, and material practices, Komar explores the relationships between place, ritual, the body, and the natural world. Under the brand Switch Witch, Komar extends her visual art practice into sensory art through aromatics, plant material, and folk magic. Her small-batch body care offerings transform locally gathered botanicals and slow, intentional processes into objects of daily ritual. Rooted in the belief that tending to the body can also be a way of tending to the spirit, Switch Witch invites moments of somatic grounding, sensory awareness, and connection to place. The Lemonade Stand is so pleased to have @amykomar in the gallery for the auction fundraiser for @breadlineak. We’d been waiting for this old timer in Fairbank’s to have an estate sale after eagle eyeing his rusty collection strewn about his property. Major potential for a treasure hunt! We dug through his connexes stuffed and strewn with his lifetime collection. We excavated a small box of glass floats he collected off the Aleutian Islands in the 60’s. He agreed to sell us ONE box. I’m slowly working on them, free-handing dot work across their gorgeous curves. by @amykomar

Appreciation post for my right hand man Matt who makes all the custom frames for my art work. When we first started working together we fixed found objects to weathered wood panels with wires, which worked however imperfectly. Desiring something more elegant and unseen, he devised the system we use today. Each painted object floats centered on frame with a hidden industrial strength magnet embedded into weathered wood panels. by @amykomar

A recent completed commission before schools out for summer and daytime studio hours transition into evenings after my kids are in bed | last slide is from the collector “charging” the piece amongst their seedlings and spring sun before hanging - love it when patrons get the energetic component in the work I make ✨#artistmother #foundobjectart #alaskaartist #dotworkart by @amykomar
