POSTS STORIES REELS

12 years.

There are things I hoped marriage would be.
Things I expected it to save.
Things I didn’t know it could break.

And there are things I’ve had to learn about Hope, pain, love, and being alone inside a life I used to imagine differently. by @amyleighwicks

Your next chapter starts now.

Reading doesn’t happen in straight lines for me anymore, sometimes it melts and moves like water, memory, and emotion. Sometimes it goes through me.

I wrote this in a season where everything slowed down—
and I had no choice but to feel what was actually there.

I recorded it before I knew how much I would need to hear it

If you’ve been moving too fast…
I hope this meets you differently.

Untitled or Into the Wilderness or For Adrian. I’ve read and re-read Baxter’s poetry more times than I care to admit. I wrote this poem inspired by James Keir Baxter’s Jerusalem Sonnet 11. by @amyleighwicks

This is part writing prompt for myself, and maybe it will also help you when you feel stuck in your writing or your being —or when you just wanna touch a tree with green stuff on it. by @amyleighwicks

Fire roasted sauceless sauce with meatballs and tube-y noodles. This was easy, fast, and would have been even smoother if I blended instead of food processing.

Sauce: roasted red peppers, sun dried tomatoes, silken tofu, sautéed garlic and onion salt and pepper blended with juice of a lemon.
Meatballs were literally just beef, eggs, garlic and onion and salt and pepper. Inspired by @dr.emily.nutrition by @amyleighwicks

When poetry is no longer a vehicle to escape in, it becomes a home to all of the beauty and pain of learning to be present. This sestina took time to write. A seven stanza poem with the first six stanzas sharing end words in a mathematical sequence, closing with a three line envoi. Sometimes my messy work craves clinical poetic structure. by @amyleighwicks

This season has felt like no margin, just a tide of dishes and bills and laughter and grief, and somehow (!) I’m bursting with love. by @amyleighwicks

Set a timer and move between asking who what when where why and how… don’t think or edit, just write without stopping for 5 minutes. by @amyleighwicks

I didn’t want to write poetry about being a mom.

But apparently, motherhood had other plans.

This one was a splinter that took some time to surface. by @amyleighwicks

I had time to myself.

I could read.
I could drink my tea.
I could write.

Instead, I watched a woman make Skittles from scratch and got irrationally angry about it.

Motherhood is weird.

The leash around my neck is love.

I am not good or bad or invisible.
I am a mother who doesn’t want to clean her stove or unload the dishwasher.

Tell me I’m not the only one. 😂

Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest things.

A poem about marriage, motherhood, memory, and finding my way back to the page.

What are you making room for right now?
