I’m so glad I took the time to learn from another artist over the weekend. I thoroughly enjoying taking Mark Mehaffey’s plein air class @boyne_arts_center ! I learned so much about seeing paintings whoever I go and finding the thing in the composition where you want the viewers eye to go. And Mark’s reminder that not all paintings will be masterpieces (especially at a workshop) and his encouragement to get outside and paint more… I needed to hear that! Thanks @mehaffeygallery by @amypeterman_art

Last week I got to tag along on my husband’s work trip. While he was in conference all day, I spent time at museums and doing some plein air painting. It felt good to paint to record a place I visited and I love that it’s just for me to have in my sketchbook. I also loved exploring gouache, a medium I haven’t really ever explored. I wrote more about my arty adventures on my blog if you care to read. You can find it on my website. by @amypeterman_art

Take a walk in the northern Michigan woods with Amy Peterman! She brought us Autumn Cathedral and Living Color just in time for the colors outside. #petoskeygallery #downtownpetoskey #michiganartist #petoskeyarea #northernmichiganartist [video description: the first shot walks down a small town street with yellow locust trees along one side, and turns towards a blue painted and tiled gallery storefront. Then, inside the gallery, the shot focuses on an impressionistic acrylic painting of a path sweeping through autumn trees, light glowing in the orange leaves. The shot moves across to show another autumn landscape, this one with green trees in the foreground, and orange and yellow visible beyond, drawing the viewer down the path. Finally a shot of a wall of paintings by the same artist. They show more northern Michigan scenes: windswept pines on beaches, a rural barn, a sunflower field, and a large view of Little Traverse Bay at sunset.] by @amypeterman_art

It’s that time of year! Prepping my little painting surfaces for Christmas ornaments! I am doing a very small batch this year, so if you want one, I encourage you to join to my free Collectors Club so you can have first dibs when they go live. Link in bio. by @amypeterman_art

We spent Saturday in Grand Rapids with nothing on the agenda except art. ArtPrize really is amazing. Booth after booth, gallery after gallery, surrounded by people who were curious and exploring, and by artists who were being vulnerable putting their art into the world. It reminded me why I started doing this in the first place, and why community over competition isn't just something I say. Swipe through for the whole day, and tell me at the end when you last set aside a day just to go look at art. by @amypeterman_art

Let’s try this again! The Merchants and Makers organizers were able to give @josephinetheprintmaker and me booths in THIS Saturday’s ArtPrize Makers Market! Yay! And the weather is looking good! Our booths will be on Monroe between Ionia and Division in front of the police department. We would LOVE to have all of our GR friends come see us! by @amypeterman_art
