2024, 34… 🎂

New year, same me 💀 BUT I’ve finally decided to switch things up and use this (now public!) account for work purposes…

Rather than jumping through hoops to make viral Reels, I want to share the incredible people I’m so lucky to interview, in inspiring places 🌎

I write on food, travel, lifestyle and pop culture for various publications, and run a few social media accounts behind the scenes (whilst completely ignoring my own… could this be the year the cobbler mends her own shoes?🤞🏻)

If you’re working on a regenerative travel project or luxury hospitality concept that champions local produce, supports its community and does more than talk about sustainability, I want to know about it!

Wellness practitioner Chris & designer Tania’s 1912 restored mansion is an hour outside of Helsinki, with a saltwater pool, donkeys, and subterranean Finnish sauna.

You can’t do better with your time off than moonlit mushroom foraging led by @samitallberg. I love it in August/September (go to @flowfestivalhelsinki) but Christmas is magical, with a bit of local skiing, too.🎿🍄

🇬🇪KARATER - GEORGIAN BISTRO
📍LISBON, PORTUGAL

At @karater_lisbon, there’s only one rule: don’t call it orange wine!

“Amber wine! I’m bringing it.”

@chefguram tells the story of his country, Georgia, through food. Every dish draws on a fragment of history & his personal memory. If you’re lucky and he’s in the house, he’ll explain each dish as it lands in front of you.

Order anything with aubergine, then as many Khinkali dumplings as you can manage (see @celfo_carlos enjoying a tutorial).

I consider Karater one of Lisbon’s essential restaurants, essential enough to brave the stag dos swirling around Bairro Alto… go for lunch to appreciate the historic lojas in the area. I did an actual dance in my seat when each dish arrived so that deserves me summoning the last of this week’s wherewithal to make this grid post.

The wine list celebrates Georgia’s ancient winemaking traditions, and the beautifully illustrated menu carries the same sense of storytelling. Prices are excellent, vibes are high.

The khachapuri is an endeavourrrr, but fantastic, stuffed with molten cheese, crowned with an egg yolk (the egg is the sun, the eye of God, watching over the table). Across Georgia there are countless versions, each region with its own. Guram’s is theatrical and decadent, just like him! ✨

Will be venturing to Georgia itself for September harvest, with Guram, Carlos (and anyone else who books their holidays around dumplings, hmu).

Pulling up to @thepergola_boutiquehotel I couldn’t quite believe the colours… by fluke I caught the gardens at their best (Portugal really blooms in May/June). Cascais is fusty if you end up in the wrong places, but not here.

Hidden in plain sight just off the main drag in Cascais, you’d never know this little boutique hotel is there. Neither the excellent @bougain.pt (by @cafedesaobento team) beyond the gate. Even in crap weather, the evening vibe was buzzy, brilliant people watching - fun holiday fashion, classy and bright.

Anyone who knows me gets that this colour palette speaks to me 😂 nothing’s changed since I was a teenager 💜💚💖 + 💙💛…

Would go back in a heartbeat, will send family & friends, swapped books with the receptionist within two minutes of arriving…

Couldn’t have asked for a prettier place to shake off the @primavera_sound blues (40 mins from Lisbon airport in a taxi, dreamy). An absolute pleasure to review for @the_hotel_guru.

Barcelona, a weekend of highs and lows… no flights, rained off, missed @geesebandnyc… put right by @bel.ruiz92, @gorillaz, @thexx, @sudanarchives, @oliviarodrigo (& @thecure!?) doing it for the sad girls/millennials

thank you so much for making our time so special @mettbarcelona, @staygenerator, @bcnprincess, @derby_hotels - that will take some beating

@primavera_sound, always a great time, working harder than ever for gender parity and equality at their festival & fringe events, offering refunds for weather issues on Thursday, you can’t fault ‘em #nobodyisnormal

lil snapshot of my first time in Aljezur for @sauce_mag… grateful to @praiadocanal for sharing this extraordinary corner of Portugal so generously.

in Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, and the only five-star hotel in the region, Praia do Canal makes one of Europe’s last unbuilt stretches of Atlantic coastline accessible.

learned more about the Moorish history and Arabic place names that shape Portugal, stocked up on “beach wines” at @vicentinowines and ate exceptionally well - won’t forget some of the best carabineros to date & banoffee pie (golf buggied to bed, eaten watching Beef szn 1).

in this weird world of AI and instant gratification, time in nature feels like a real luxury. Portugal always has more up its sleeve! next time I’ll tack on Sagres.

fuelling up for Miguel’s smash-hit food symposium bringing together Portugal’s best thinkers, chefs, growers & dreamers… CULTIVAR catered by the best in the biz @dobeco_padaria, @gleba_padaria @pigmeuportugal

Portugal beaches still unbeaten, loving Sao Rafael down in the Algarve…

… a ten-minute drive from @wineandbooks.pt, where I ate a lottt of focaccia & clams, + learned about ancient Roman clay pot winemaking at @primadonna.restaurante

also demolished this chocolate mousse the size of a football (best I’ve had outside @restaurantecanalha) spoon for scale @restaurante_praia_saorafael
