a little piece of Japan in nyc 🇯🇵

As soon as you step into Tomoni, it feels like you’ve been transported straight to Japan. The beautiful wood accents throughout the space, even worked into the food presentation, really add to the whole experience.

And as good as everything looks, the food tastes just as good. From their ginormous eel chirashi don to beautiful bowls of sushi over rice, they have a great selection of Japanese classics and specialties. Definitely the kind of hidden gem you wouldn’t expect to find tucked away in Woodside, Queens. ✨

In addition to their omakase menu, @koeteomakase just launched new handroll sets and à la carte options.

We stopped by for dinner and tried their premium 5-handroll set for $70 pp. These are definitely not your average handrolls. Each one felt more like an omakase course, with fresh cuts of fish and high-quality toppings like caviar.

My favorite part: every piece is made as a handroll and comes wrapped in seaweed, so you get that perfect combo of fresh fish, toppings, and crispy seaweed in every bite. Soosoo good, and every handroll hit the spot! 🤤

Why drink your alcohol when you can have it as a shaved ice?! 😂🍧 Such a fun summer treat! They also have all the classic Korean pocha dishes to snack on, and it’s right in the heart of Ktown. The perfect vibey spot to grab some food, drinks, and hang out with friends.

Casual omakase with unique pieces and some really distinct flavors. Especially loved their torched tomato on top of the salmon. I’ve only seen a handful of omakase spots in NYC do this, and the umami from the tomato works SO well with the fatty salmon. Definitely a good spot if you want something casual but still a little different from your usual omakase experience!

Red Paper Clip has been on my try list for so long. They’ve been featured in the Michelin Guide for several consecutive years, so I’ve been wanting to see what they’re all about. Their cuisine is modern and contemporary with Asian influences, and now you can try their hidden seasonal menu for $135 pp, which includes 5 signature courses + a complimentary drink.

We had dishes like spot prawn, Rohan duck, but the one that really caught me off guard was their crème brûlée with uni, matcha, and orange blossom. Sounds insane, right?! But wow, did those flavors work so damn well together. 🤤

Intimate 16-course omakase for $108 pp 🍣✨

Sekai Omakase focuses on a “less is more” approach. They really let the quality and natural flavor of the fish speak for itself instead of piling on a ton of sauces and toppings. It’s a more traditional style of sushi where the ingredients are the main focus, so you can really focus on the fresh fish itself. The space is also so serene and calm, which really lets you slow down and enjoy the craft of omakase and watching the chef prepare each piece.

ENDLESS Salmon Omakase 🍣🤯

Yes, you read that right… Shinn West has an ENDLESS salmon series where you can fill up on 3 different types: Ora King, Arctic Char, and New Zealand salmon 🐟.

The experience starts with the chefs bringing out all 3 whole fish and breaking them down right in front of you. Then the salmon just keeps coming. As soon as your plate is empty, they refill it, sometimes with 3 HUGE pieces at a time! You also get the salmon in so many different ways: nigiri, handrolls, dip & crackers, over rice, and SOoo much more. And they definitely don’t hold back on the toppings either… we got a HUGE scoop of caviar on top of one course 🤌.

Such an INSANE experience and we left SO full. The whole experience is $130.80 + tax per person, and honestly, for how much food you get, it’s wild. 😮‍💨🤰

can’t believe it took me this long to stumble upon Klong. it might look like a super unassuming hole-in-the-wall spot, but they serve some seriously authentic, flavorful Thai food at really affordable prices. they also have amazing happy hour deals: $6 mojitos/margaritas, $30 for a whole pitcher, $5 Sapporos or $19 for a pitcher .🍹🍺

they probably have the best Kor Moo Yang (grilled marinated pork neck) we’ve had yet. can see why this is such a st.mark’s staple.
