Thank you to all who joined us for an Artist Talk with exhibiting artist Amy Wickersham and TJ Hindman, owner and curator at The Modern Bulldog.

We learned about Amy’s process, practice, and inspiration for her silk paintings on linen and solid glass sculptures.

About the Artist:
Working primarily with dyed silk on linen, Amy Wickersham creates luminous, layered compositions allowing overlapping fields of color and organic forms to emerge, recede, and shift across the surface. Her work draws from observations of nature and the every day- from shifting light and landscape to fragments and textures found in the urban environment.

More recently, Amy has expanded her practice into sculpture, exploring glass and other materials. Her work has been exhibited throughout the US, including presentations at Hollis Taggart, Kathryn Markel Gallery, Onna House, Lieber Foundation, Guild Hall, The Church Sag Harbor, and the Women’s Art Center of the Hamptons. Amy Wickersham works from her studio in Sag Harbor, NY.

About the Moderator:
TJ Hindman is a collector and design enthusiast-and founder and owner of The Modern Bulldog, a gallery of mid-century modern furniture, art, sculpture, and accessories. TJ brings to the conversation a discerning eye, genuine curiosity, and an appreciation for the creative process. His interest extends beyond aesthetics to the relationship between artist, object, material, and the people who choose to live with art.

About the Artist:

Amy Wickersham is a New York–based artist whose abstract paintings explore color, light, and material through a process-driven approach. Working primarily with dyed silk on linen, she creates luminous, layered compositions allowing overlapping fields of color and organic forms to emerge, recede, and shift across the surface.  Her work draws from observations of nature and the everyday—from shifting light and landscape to fragments and textures found in the urban environment. 

More recently, Wickersham has expanded her practice into sculpture, exploring glass and other materials as a continuation of her interest in color, transparency, form, and light. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout New York and the United States, including presentations at Hollis Taggart, Kathryn Markel Gallery, Onna House, Southampton Arts Center, the Leiber Foundation, Guild Hall, The Church Sag Harbor, and the Women’s Art Center of the Hamptons. 

Born in Chicago, Wickersham earned her BFA from the University of Denver and studied painting and drawing at the Spannocchia Foundation in Italy. She moved to New York City in 1990 and has lived and worked in Sag Harbor, NY since 2010.
