This is it. This is what it’s always been about.

If you’ve been around me in the last couple weeks, chances are all you’ve heard about is CAMP!!!🏕️

Spellers Camp through @autistically_inclined : where families of non-speaking, minimally-speaking, or unreliably-speaking apraxic autistic individuals come together to play, connect, learn, laugh, regulate, love.

Did you know that many autistic individuals have apraxia, a mind-body disconnect, where motor functions like vocal speech can be extremely challenging or unreliable to access? but they still have fully and highly intelligent thoughts and words to share with the world?

This is my favorite topic in the world to talk about. If you’re wondering how to interact with and/or support the autistic community, let’s chat!! But to put it simply: PRESUME COMPETENCE ☺️ Presume that every body and brain wants to learn, play, connect, communicate, and love. After all, that’s exactly what everyone on earth wants.

do you ever flip through old photos
reminiscing on their ease and presumed permanence
I’ve traversed just enough chapters now to know this one, too, won’t last
that’s not morbid
or pessimistic
it’s realistic, and a privilege
the ebbs and flows of life
bringing in what’s meant to be on your path
and sending away those on another
with a nudge of encouragement and love
a new job opportunity
a pull to travel
a partner
a priority shift
it’s a beautiful thing to evolve
and you can’t hold onto a current
this chapter is fleeting, as they all have before
I’d like to pause and cherish it a bit longer
because it’s a really good one

✨colored pencils are pure magic ✨

The last time I really dove into colored pencil was over 15 years ago for a trompe-l’œil* unit in AP art class. I recently thrifted a box of used art supplies (hella #prismacolors🤩) & used what I had—some of my grandma’s old drawing paper, not the most optimal for colored pencils, but she held strong.

And I’m sooo proud of this practice. It feels so healing to pick up again, like magic leaving my fingertips.

*Trompe-l’œil = “to deceive/trick the eye”

Denver, Oct 25

I’ve had the inescapable urge lately to create. To slow down and disconnect. To capture beautiful little moments in time. I stumbled across an old camera of my mom’s that’s been calling to me to bring into my artistic expression.

Maybe it’s living alone for the first time in my adult life where I can paint carefree on the floor in my living room. Maybe it’s rediscovering the beauty of creative expression and individuality that once fell at the wayside. Maybe it’s just the freedoms and frustrations of creation that mirror reality.

There’s new intentionality and authenticity in and around me. There’s beauty in depth and vulnerability.
