After 18 years of a career in higher education, I turned in my keys and am ready for my next adventure. When I was clearing out my office I even found old burned CD’s! WHAT! (see photo 4)You may or may not know that I’ve been the Director of SSS TRIO and LOVE my college students. I’ve also been a professor teaching about goal setting, creating plans of action, mindset, and beyond. I’ve had the privilege of meeting thousands of students which is mind blowing to think about.Maybe you’re reading this and you’re one of them. 🤗🤗If that’s you — know how proud I am of you. Confidence comes after action, not before it. Repeat that 🤗Some people walked in a little nervous and everyone walked out having recorded videos, met new people, shared stories, and cheered each other on.My favorite part was watching people embrace the “Already Friends” mentality. Here’s what I’d tell you before walking into an event solo: Smiling and saying hi go a long way Ask to take a picture with someoneOffer to take a picture for someoneGet their IG handle so you can tag themKeep open body language (avoid crossing your arms + legs)Aside from pics, put your phone down so people have a chance to approach you Be curious and ask questions Compliment people and obviously only say it if you mean it Meeting and talking with people is a skill like anything else.
