دَعِ الأُمُورَ تَجْرِي فِي أَعِنَّتِهَا
وَنَمْ نَوْمًا قَرِيرًا هَانِيءَ البَالِ
فَمَا بَيْنَ غَفْلَةٍ عَيْنِ وَانْتِبَاهَتِهَا

In the heart of Holy Karbala, specifically in 1966, a voice was born that became the most iconic symbol in Hussaini history. Basim Al-Karbalaei was not just a chanter; he was a project for a vocal epic that began in Karbala's old alleys, drawing inspiration from the legendary "Hamza Al-Zagheer" and mastering the foundations of the sacred oulpit.
From Karbala to Exile:
The journey began in childhood within
Karbalaei processions. However, in 1980, due to harsh political circumstances, Basim and his family moved to Iran (Isfahan). There, he began a phase of academic refinement, studying the Quran and Tajweed under great masters, which gave his voice the strength to master the most difficult melodies.
The 1990s: Global Fame:
His true fame launched in the early 90s from the Sultanate of Oman. He collaborated with great poets, led by (Jaber Al-Kazemi), forming a duo that transformed the Hussaini poem from traditional styles to modern emotional themes that deeply touch the human soul and spirit.
Vocal Engineering and Legacy:
Just as a skyscraper is built in layers, Basim built his glory with vocal layers (bass and treble) that amazed listeners. Blending’authentic Iraqi modes with modern arrangements, masterpieces like "Khattar ljani" and "Tamannayt" became eternal pillars, crowning him as the "Sultan of the Pulpit" with thousands of poems.
The Return and Immortality:
After decades of exile, Basim returned to Iraq as a global symbol of willpower. The story of Basim Al-Karbalaei is a human epic written with patience and sincerity, proving that the voice from Karbala never ages, and the dream that started in those old alleys has now embraced the skies of immortality.

Alaa Abdul-Zainabi: A Voice of Contemporary Iraqi Poetry

Alaa Abdul-Zainabi is a contemporary Iraqi poet whose work belongs to the living tradition of Iraqi popular and religious poetry. His writing reflects a distinctly Iraqi poetic sensibility—one in which emotion, memory, devotion, grief, and human attachment are transformed into powerful and easily resonant words.

Although relatively little biographical information about his personal life has been widely documented, Abdul-Zainabi’s name has appeared prominently in connection with contemporary poetic works performed by well-known Iraqi radud and vocal performers. His poetry has found its way into the religious and cultural space of the Iraqi majlis, where poetry is not simply read, but performed, heard, remembered, and emotionally experienced .
One of the notable works attributed to him is “I‘tidhar Al-Khiyam” (The Apology of the Tents), performed by Muslim Al-Waeli. The poem draws upon the tragic imagery of Karbala, particularly the sorrow of the tents and the suffering that followed the battle. Through its dramatic language and emotional intensity, the poem demonstrates Abdul-Zainabi’s ability to transform historical and religious memory into a deeply human poetic experience.
