When designing this, I was heavily inspired by historic boat-building structures, specifically their incremental skeleton, informing both the structural logic and visual rhythm. This represents and echoes a spirit of exploration rooted in @jacquescartierstudio .   Through vernacular of @anagramism I chase the idea of a “far-fetched near future”. Which is why the materials and their roles are deliberately inverted. The base in steel, the seat appearing as melting liquid or flowing fabric. A clear tension between the fluid and rigid, natural and man-made, cold steel and warm wood, ultimately embodying the very materials @vestre_furniture was built from.

Deep in the Norwegian forest, just 6 km from the Swedish border stands “The Plus”. This remarkable factory of @vestre_furniture, designed by @bjarkeingels / @big_builds which also happens to be a finalist in this year’s @danish_design_award.

This day was special. Watching the pieces of a vision come together, side by side with my dear friend and collaborator @willycartier for @jacquescartierstudio and the Vestre team, felt both surreal and grounding. All at once.

A 300 kg neo-brutalist bench might seem excessive in most contexts. Here, the madness felt right at home. A reminder of how powerful architecture becomes when it shares the same spirit as the people within it.

You’ve touched galvanized steel a thousand times.
Never thought twice. Maybe don’t even know what it is.
It lives on poles, railings, trash cans made to simply exist, not to be seen.
That’s what made it interesting.

I wanted to invert it.
Put it on something sculptural.
Heavy. Brutal. Precise.

Impossible to ignore.

Over the past years I’ve had this idea of a creative entity that collaborates across brands, product categories, formats and as well as platforms. A couple of weeks ago this idea turned into reality and things took off. This means tons to me, not just because it is the first project of ANAGRAM but because I get to create together with @vestre_furniture and @jacquecartierstudio - and of course lastly because the collection will literally weigh half a ton when ready. Which adds a layer of irony to the name “IMMATERIAL”.  Godspeed, V by @anagramism
