KALATHOS II

Interlaced/woven leather headband
.
«Kalathos» were woven crowns with an exvased cylindrical shape named after baskets widely used in the ancient Greek world, around the 5th-4th century B.C. These «little basket-crowns» woven in gold instead of vegetable fibres have been found being worn by terracotta figurines of Minoan goddesses dating back to c.a.1400 B.C., stone sculptures and fresco paintings. Interestingly, they were associated both with female and male deities, kings & warriors (from Demeter and Artemis to Helios and Serapis), symbolizing abundance and protection.
