I still don’t have the words to describe this experience.

I’ve been moving through a period of burnout and grief. There a good days and there are days when the weight just feels like too much.

And then my love surprises me with the opportunity to hand it all over to the wind and be weightless.

Here on the ground, my closest friends and family have been helping me carry the weight. I am so grateful. So lucky.

We’re at @birdysroom! We’re at the @femmesshootfilm.pdx meetup! We’re at the combination Birdy’s Room Femmes Shoot Film meetup!

In 2024 I started FemmesShootFilm, a club for women and nonbinary film or film-curious photographers. I was frustrated by all the bro-saturated photography spaces in Portland and FemmesShootFilm was the answer.

Last year, @cbruyac and @hakeart joined me in organizing events. Camille designs all of our amazing flyers. Together, we host monthly meetups for film femmes and thems of all skill levels. These meetups prioritize community and safety over gear and technique (but we do be nerding out about film still 🤓)

The first thing I do at each event is make sure everyone knows each other’s names. Every new face is enthusiastically welcomed and encouraged to engage at their own comfort level. There are no film purity tests. Interested in film but right now a digi cam or phone camera is what’s most accessible to you? You’re welcome here. Are you nonbinary but not femme-presenting? I am proud to share this story with you all.

The story behind the Black, queer artists who traveled from Portland, OR to D.C. to document the events of Trump’s inauguration weekend.

What @meaghanonfilm & @analogdanica have shared with us is a deeply important body of work— a reminder that photographers and filmmakers carry a responsibility to document the moments of our time, tangible scenes and emotions that will be studied years from now.

Here are some images from my view of the MADD D.C. opening night in January 2026 — exactly one year after the inauguration — I feel so lucky to have witnessed a project so crucial come to fruition. It was an honor to be there with them and to watch the audience’s reactions to their film. There was an incredible turnout for the screening…lucky us that they’ve decided to host a final screening tomorrow 02.07.26 before they close their exhibition.
