Say the return first.

Open with entry price, exit, and return — then defend it. A model that buries the return buries your judgment too.

Return first. Proof second.

Name the buyer. Every exit needs someone on the other side. If you can't name who buys this in five years — and why — you don't have a thesis yet. Price the deal for the buyer who actually shows up. Name the bet.

Every deal is one bet wearing a spreadsheet. If you can't say what has to go right — in one sentence — you don't have a thesis yet.

Thesis first. Model second.

Growth is not a moat. Anyone can grow with cheap capital. The interview question is what survives when the capital gets expensive: pricing power, switching costs, a cost edge. Underwrite durability, not just growth.

EBITDA is not cash flow. Sponsors bank cash, not acronyms. Underwrite the cash. Free paper LBO drill: https://analystdrills.gumroad.com/l/free-paper-lbo-drill #privateequity #paperlbo #financecareers #investmentbanking #peinterview by @analystdrills

Lead with the answer.

Interviewers decide in the first thirty seconds. Don't build up to it — say it first, then prove it.

Stop answering in ranges.

“Eighteen to twenty-four percent” sounds careful. Interviewers hear no conviction.

Give them a number. Then earn the range back as a sensitivity, not a hedge.

Short answers win.
The interviewer isn't grading length. They're grading whether your answer survives the follow-up. Say it in one sentence. Then defend it.
If it needs a paragraph, it isn't an answer yet.

Debt doesn't save a bad deal.

Growth stories are cheap. Cash flow is the receipt.

Underwrite the cash. Discount the story.
