Last month, I stepped into the studio with a terrific team to record Ahavat Hadassah, my upcoming album of traditional Yemeni Jewish music. Recording felt like a portal as we lifted up ancient songs passed down through generations and transformed them into our new, contemporary takes. I’m incredibly grateful to my teachers Lea Avraham, Amitai Aricha, Tom Fogel, and Gila Beshari, who have shepherded me through learning these songs. And I’m remembering and honoring my grandparents, Sara Shadra Halevy and Haim Halevy.

I was so tickled to work with the most incredible team on this record, who brought their love and attention and labor to making this happen, working on everything from playing and singing the music; capturing audio, video, and photo; and lovingly attending to food and other material needs. I want to give a special shout out to my co-producer @yoniavibattat, who has brought and continues to bring his incredible skills, talents, and ideas to the project in a most beautiful way. It’s been wonderful to collaborate.

I can't wait to share this music with you all! Stay tuned for updates.

Hadar’s summer season of the Rising Song Salon continues on June 30th with Anat Halevy Hochberg’s Ahavat Hadassah!

A song leader and educator dedicated to helping others find their voices, Anat is reclaiming the Yemeni melodies of her heritage through her project, Ahavat Hadassah. Drawing from both sacred piyyut traditions and women’s folk songs, she brings the richness of Yemenite Jewish musical life to audiences with clarity, warmth, and care. Her debut album, Ahavat Hadassah, is slated for release in late 2026.

Equal parts performance and conversation, Anat will be joined by R. Deborah Sacks Mintz for an exploration of source material, history, and creative process - with a healthy dose of audience participation and Q and A!
