Growing up in the Filipino community, I remember when mental health wasn’t openly discussed.

“It’s all in your head.”
“You’ll be fine.”
“Just be strong.”

Many of us heard these words and learned to carry our struggles quietly—not always because people didn’t care, but because silence was what they knew.

But times are changing.

Inspired by my Filipino roots and the importance of mental health awareness, I created the Laban Lang Collection as a reminder that we don’t have to face life alone.

LABAN LANG — KEEP FIGHTING.

For the battles no one sees. Strength can mean feeling, resting, healing, and asking for help.

PATULOY — KEEP GOING.

Healing isn’t linear, progress isn’t always visible, and sometimes one small step is enough. We don’t need everything figured out—we just need the grace to continue, one day at a time.

Together, these messages represent resilience, compassion, culture, and the courage to start conversations once left unspoken.

May these pieces spark a conversation, inspire someone to check on a friend, or remind someone that they matter.

It’s okay not to be okay.

Let’s be the generation that listens, understands, and makes room for healing.

This October, Joey’s Kitchen Kahului at Balai Pata is proud to collaborate with With You & Co for a special edition of FIRST FRIDAY! 🎤✨

As we kick off Filipino American History Month, we’re also creating space for a conversation that isn’t always easy to have in our community: mental health matters.

For many Filipino families, conversations around mental health can still carry stigma, silence, or the expectation to simply “be strong.” This collaboration is about helping change that — reminding our community that checking in, speaking up, asking for help, and showing up for one another are all forms of strength. 💚

So this First Friday, we’re bringing community, culture, conversation & karaoke together under one roof.

🎤 Bring your song list — because beware… if you don’t, we might just choose one for you 👀😂

Mahalo to everyone who came to our Craft Club yesterday! 🌈✨Everyone’s mirrors and affirmation cards turned out so cute, thoughtful, and inspiring. It felt like the perfect craft for this month💕

If it weren’t for him, I would’ve never met my husband (his brother). 😂

He came with me on a last-minute trip and somehow ended up being my date to my cousin’s wedding in California. We did a multi-city adventure—partied in Vegas, then made our final stop in San Diego for a family wedding.

We checked into the Marriott in Gaslamp after what felt like the longest day ever. I was exhausted from Vegas, took an early flight to San Diego, grabbed our rental car, went straight to the wedding rehearsal, then finally made it to the hotel for a much-needed nap.

When I woke up, I was starving. He casually says, “My brother is coming.”

My response? “Huh? You have a brother here?” 😂

We found a Thai restaurant near the hotel, and while we were waiting, Romel asked where he could park. I told him, “At the hotel.” He left to pick him up.

A few minutes later, I was sitting there waiting when they both walked in.

That was the first time I met Lawrence.

One dinner. One random introduction. One moment that changed my entire life.

The rest was history. ❤️
