Swan Nebula (M17)

The nebula didn’t form all at once. It has undergone multiple waves of star formation, with roughly 1,000 new stars actively forming within its outer molecular clouds today.

Probably the deepest and cleanest data I’ve captured to date. This one marks a big step for me. I used some processing techniques that I picked up from @astrobackyard and the results are insane. I hope you enjoy!

Butterfly Nebula (IC 1318)

Located roughly 5,000 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus, this cosmic butterfly is an active stellar nursery and one of the most prolific star-forming regions in our galaxy!

SWAN NEBULA - M17 ✨
M17 is located about 5,500 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius.

Also known as the Omega Nebula, it is one of the largest active star-forming regions in the Milky Way and contains one of our galaxy’s youngest star clusters.

Here, intense radiation from massive young stars carves through dark dust and energizes glowing hydrogen gas. The bright clouds and dense dust lanes are part of the raw material from which new stars continue to form.

The swan-like shape is only the visible outline of a much larger and more complex stellar nursery.

SH2-86 (The Hidden Hammerhead)

This faint emission nebula located about 6,000 light-years away in the constellation Vulpecula was almost lost beneath the background glow. Teasing out the subtle details of the surrounding nebula took 18 hours of exposure and careful processing. A friend pointed out that it looks like a hammerhead shark swimming through space.

On my first night in Arizona I stood under the desert skies at Glen Canyon and captured Cygnus rising above the canyon walls as the moon set. This image feels like more than just a photo. It marks the beginning of a new chapter in both life and my astrophotography journey.

Flaming Star Nebula (IC 405)

1,500 light-years away the O-type star AE Aurigae ionizes surrounding hydrogen while interstellar dust scatters blue light. This forms a mixed emission/reflection nebula shaped by stellar winds. O-type stars are some of the most hot, massive, and rare. Making up only 0.00003% of stars in the Milky Way.

M35

An open star cluster where color, depth, and distance collide. With distant NGC 2158 glowing in the lower left.

M35 shines blue with young hot stars that haven’t aged long enough to cool. NGC 2158 glows orange because it’s far older, filled with cooler, evolved stars nearing the later stages of stellar life ✨

This was only 1.5 hours worth of 120s exposures taken while testing my optics/new camera. Thought I’d share cause it was just so beautiful!

Horsehead & Flame Nebula

Surrounding Alnitak, the easternmost star of Orion’s Belt, this single patch of sky contains nearly every form of interstellar matter.
The iconic Horsehead Nebula is made up of dense dust blocking hydrogen from the rich emission nebula IC 434. Next to that is the Flame Nebula burning with intricate lanes of dust and ionized gas, its structure carved by Alnitak’s intense radiation.
