Skipped the crowds at Reinebringen for this one.
~7.5 km round trip, 543 m up. A long way, but quiet at the top and Kvalvika beach right below.

A week on Åland, Finland, my first with a bow.

Good friends, more game than I’ve seen in a long time, more close encounters than I expected. And a dragonfly that landed on my arrow while I sat still.

They cooked oil out of stone here.
📍 Oljekoken, Gössäter, Kinnekulle, Sweden
In the 1890s this alum shale was supposed to become Sweden’s oil industry. The retort was shipped in from Scotland. The name literally means “the oil cooker.” Today the forest runs the works.

Two tries.
Yesterday the storm turned me back halfway. Today the mountain let me go up, but on its own terms. Fog, rain, wind.
And it was just as much. Just as beautiful in grey and wet as in sun and clear sky… only quieter. Rawer.
The mountain gives a different gift every day. None better than the other.
Go anyway. It will give you a great experience no matter what.

One pan. One fire.

Beetroot, butter, sea salt, pepper, ground chilli, chives, chèvre. Twenty minutes from spark to first bite.
1. Cast iron, plenty of butter, medium heat
2. Beetroot sliced into even rounds go in
3. Cook 15 minutes, turning in the browning butter
4. Chives, salt, pepper, ground chilli
5. Chèvre on top, baste with the pan juices until the cheese skins over

En stekpanna. En eld.
Rödbeta, smör, havssalt, peppar, mald chili, gräslök, chèvre. Tjugo minuter från första gnistan till första tuggan.
1. Stekpannan, mycket smör, medelvärme
2. Skiva rödbetorna jämntjockt i pannan
3. Stek 15 minuter, vänd i det brynta smöret
4. Gräslök, salt, peppar, mald chili
5. Chèvre ovanpå, ös skyn över tills osten får yta

More snow overnight and the cave was way icier than I expected. Too slippery to go far in, so I only got a small peek.

Not the adventure I had in mind, but still worth the trip.
