i wanted to write another long journal entry-esque post but I really don’t feel like it. do yall ever just not feel like it? Can I please say I don’t feel like it without the rise and grinders secretly judging me?! Like omg so rude. I really overthink the social media thing because I feel like everything must be so perfectly curated especially when you work in entertainment and your life is supposed to look like a constant “moment” but I JUST cant (i love those who do, you inspire me). It’s just not very Andi of me. Nothing about me is perfectly curated or put together but should I just trick you guys into thinking I am? Let me know in the chat. I’m sure there’s a balance somewhere…or not…idc. Anyway I don’t feel like it and yet here I am doing it, and that’s usually how my life goes 🤸🏽‍♀️ by @andikarisscasting

Going back to NY rn is INSANE. Harlem ily but wow sun and water and palm trees and film and beach and dating myself and nice hotels and connecting with people who love what I love really does wonders for me. I kinda always “forget” how important that last part is - no truly impactful project was created in isolation - I just thrive so much alone I’ve started to believe that I can do anything alone - like anything. I’m having an “omg I need people!?!?” type moment. Idk I also have a mean case of imposter syndrome let’s unpack that later ANYWAY I def need to lean into the incredible people God puts around me. The last few days have been such a blessing. If it’s raining upon my arrival in NY I can’t promise I won’t get a one-way literally ANY WHERE ELSE. Also I met a spider man. Love me some spidey so yea 10/10 experience would recommend will be there next year and all the others. Coogler lowkey dead wrong for not coming but I’ll live I guess. More to create. More to learn. And also I want to make a documentary @americanblackfilmfestival 🤸🏽‍♀️ taken in Miami, Florida by @andikarisscasting

84 years ago Hattie McDaniel was the first African American to win an Academy Award for her role in “Gone with the Wind.” As I work the show this year I’m just imagining the contrast and tension in the room 84 years ago: this incredibly opulent ceremony, yet she was segregated, forced to sit apart from the rest of her cast. And then she wins but her legacy is somewhat overshadowed by the limitations of the role, the ‘Mammy’ archetype, a caricature born of slavery. So many contrasts like that exist in Hollywood (& beyond) where we have to celebrate the progress of our people but also acknowledge the foundation it was built on. Like do we celebrate what we have or demand more!? - probably a little bit of both. Anyway I’m rooting for everybody black 🫶🏽 by @andikarisscasting

Cuba Gooding Jr., Nia Long, Ice Cube, Morris Chesnut, and Regina King all made their acting debut in Boyz n the Hood. THAT is vision, which is so important in casting - being able to see miles and decades into worlds that don’t exist yet. Singleton wrote Doughboy specifically for Ice Cube (we love a rapper turned actor) - he met him while working as an intern for Arsenio Hall. Laurence Fishburne was cast after Singleton, a PA and security guard, met him on the set of Pee Wees Playhouse. *So yea always be nice to the PAs, interns, etc. they will be your bosses!* I just love the idea of putting together this cast, none of them knowing how timeless and how crucial it would be for their careers - truly the best part of casting is that underlying idea that the project can and most likely will change the lives of everyone involved. by @andikarisscasting
