Charcoal drawing of @billyjoel . I love this piece and although it isn’t quite as startling or eye catching as Bruno Mars or Walter White that’s what makes it so special. Billy Joel has spoken about depression and multiple attempts on his own life and I think this drawing really captures this. Although nothing jumps out at you, the contrast of the charcoal gives it the depressed feeling that spoke to me when I looked at the reference.
My brother said that I should write lyrics in the background and I think it turned out great. I chose “Captain Jack” which is possibly my all time favorite Billy Joel song and I think it’s lyrics really hammer home the feelings of the drawing. One of my favorites fs! by @andorn_draws

Portrait of Walter White from Breaking Bad using charcoal, taking 17.5 hours. Was debating whether to use charcoal because I didn’t think I could get great detail. I think I proved myself wrong. Takeaway is that when creating high contrast portraits especially with charcoal, taking the color away is more important than adding it on (erasing and white gel pen), especially with Walter White’s wrinkly skin. by @andorn_draws

Portrait of Bruno Mars using colored pencils.
Took just under 18 hours and over 5 of those were spent on the microphone.
First complete drawing with colored pencils since 5th grade and I’m super happy with how it turned out.
Takeaways are to trust the process and the reference (because I thought I ruined it at least 30 times throughout) and that higher quality colored pencils really do make the difference. This was super fun and I think I did him justice. by @andorn_draws

First realistic drawing using 100% charcoal
Takeaway is that charcoal is much faster and allows for a mich higher contrast than graphite. This drawing took about 15 hours less than the previous one and got a much better result in my opinion. by @andorn_draws
