๐—ฅ๐—˜๐—— ๐——๐—จ๐—ก๐—˜๐—ฆ | Vilankulos is famous for white sand, calm waters and postcard beaches. But just outside town, thereโ€™s a set of red dunes people usually climb for sunset.

We went for sunrise ๐Ÿ˜œ

Cliff - self-appointed master of light - insisted the early rays would hit the dunes differently. And he was right. The red tones deepened, the textures sharpened, and the whole place felt quieter, almost private. Waking up at 4am was definitely a good idea ๐Ÿคฉ by @andotherhorizons

๐—ž๐—ฅ๐—จ๐—š๐—˜๐—ฅ ๐—ฃ๐—ฅ๐—˜๐——๐—”๐—ง๐—ข๐—ฅ๐—ฆ | Predators are one of the main reasons people travel to Kruger National Park. And rightly so. Lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas all roam these landscapes, each playing a different role in the ecosystem.

Lions dominate through strength and cooperation. Cheetahs rely on speed and daylight hunting. Leopards prefer stealth and solitude, often dragging their prey into trees to avoid competitors. And hyenas - often misunderstood - are among the most intelligent and successful hunters in Africa! by @andotherhorizons

One of the most refreshing parts of Mozambique? Wild camping felt possible again.

After months in Southern African countries filled with national parks and regulated campsites (incredible in their own way!) being able to park above an empty beach and simply stay felt like freedom.

Cliffs over turquoise water. Dunes turning gold at sunset. No fences. No closing times. Just tide, wind and the right amount of isolation. We didnโ€™t realise how much weโ€™d missed that โค๏ธ by @andotherhorizons

๐—ฉ๐—œ๐—Ÿ๐—”๐—ก๐—ž๐—จ๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—ฆ | Vilankulos is one of Mozambiqueโ€™s most famous coastal towns - gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago, known for calm turquoise waters and impossibly soft sand.

But what stayed with us most were the colours. The shifting blues of the Indian Ocean, fishing dhows resting in shallow water, red earth meeting white beach. Itโ€™s vibrant without being loud. Itโ€™s easy to understand why so many people fall for this place ๐Ÿ˜ by @andotherhorizons

On our way out of Pomene, we found an abandoned hotel at the end of the bay.

It was built during a time when Mozambiqueโ€™s coastline was attracting tourism and investment - and later damaged during the Mozambican Civil War. Since then, nature and salt air have been slowly reclaiming it.

Standing there, looking at those views over the bay, we couldnโ€™t help but imagine what it must have been like in its prime. The setting alone was extraordinary. History has a way of leaving quiet traces in the most beautiful places... by @andotherhorizons

Walk slowly along a Mozambican beach and the sand starts moving.

We were honestly shocked by how many crabs live here. Hundreds of tiny sand crabs, perfectly camouflaged, darting sideways back into their holes the second a shadow passes. Many of them spend most of their time buried, filtering organic matter from the sand - which is why the beaches feel so alive.

Approach them, and suddenly itโ€™s like someone pressed play on the entire shoreline! by @andotherhorizons

Mozambique from above looks nothing like the postcards!

Cliffโ€™s photographic challenge here was to shoot straight down - no horizon, no obvious scale. Just textures. Sand meeting water. Tidal lines carving shapes. Foam dissolving into patterns.

From that angle, the coast becomes abstract art. Colours, movement, geometry. The kind of images that make you look twice before realising youโ€™re still just looking at nature.

Africa in the dry season? Easy(ish!). Botswana in the wet season? Different game entirely!

Out here, the rules you rely on donโ€™t quite work. Visibility drops. Tracks disappear. Wildlife hides. And suddenly, itโ€™s not about chasing the โ€œperfect shotโ€ anymore - itโ€™s about adapting, waiting, and trusting your instinct.

This film became less about what we thought weโ€™d getโ€ฆand more about what the environment was willing to give. Fewer sightings, more pressure - but also some of the most rewarding moments weโ€™ve had behind the camera.

Our new Botswana film is now live!
You know the drill - link in bio.

Hope you enjoy!

We spent nearly a week in the same spot in Pomene. Same horizon. Same stretch of sand. Different light every day.

A few fishermen passed by. A few conversations, a few waves. Otherwise...just us and the ocean. If we had to define โ€œparadiseโ€ during our time in Mozambique, this would probably be it. No big agenda. Just staying put long enough for a place to feel familiar ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒŸ by @andotherhorizons

๐—จ๐—ก๐——๐—˜๐—ฅ๐—ช๐—”๐—ง๐—˜๐—ฅ ๐—ฆ๐—”๐—™๐—”๐—ฅ๐—œ | Mozambique is famous for diving - warm Indian Ocean waters, coral reefs, whale sharks, manta rays. We hadnโ€™t dived much during our overlanding journey in Africa, so slipping below the surface again felt like returning to an old friend.

Thereโ€™s something incredibly similar to safari about it. You move slowly. You scan. You wait. And then suddenly, life appears - curious, wild, entirely in its own world. Itโ€™s the underwater version of everything we love about being out there ๐Ÿ’š by @andotherhorizons

๐— ๐—ข๐—ญ๐—”๐— ๐—•๐—œ๐—ค๐—จ๐—˜ ๐—–๐—ข๐—”๐—ฆ๐—ง | Mozambique has nearly 2,500 kilometres of coastline along the Indian Ocean - one of the longest in Africa. And large parts of it still feel wildly untouched.

Warm turquoise water, shifting sandbanks, fishing dhows, endless dunes. Itโ€™s a coast shaped by tides and time, not by high-rise hotels. Tourism exists here, of course, but step just slightly off the obvious route and the sense of space is immense.

Itโ€™s the kind of coastline that doesnโ€™t shout. It just stretches onโ€ฆand on...and on... by @andotherhorizons
