Onwards and upwards - from almost zero mobility and partial paralysis- then to a Walker. Then my Tripod cane and now on a normal Cane!!! God is Good!!

I am still struggling with a few things - my speech has improved tremendously from where it was. My walking and mobility is still a struggle but has improved significantly. I do however struggle with my short term memory and recalling the right words at times but it gets there eventually.

To sit and think where I was at 2 months ago, to where I am today is just a miracle and part of Gods Favour to bless me. I am also relentlessly stubborn and I have to get better - I am blessed to have that quality as I can not allow myself to sit down and give up!!!

My parents might have been blessed with an opinionated “Complainer” as a Second born - Trust me that I can do very well 🤣🙈- but even though I can complain a lot - I never Quit. by @andre.martinezent

Woke up in so much pain this morning from all the spasms in my back and neck, but realised that my little guardian Angel was watching over me and and it made me feel better to know that a love so pure is worth getting up for every morning. taken in Aston Bay, Eastern Cape, South Africa by @andre.martinezent

“Do what you can with all you have, wherever you are.” — Theodore Roosevelt

Each day is still a struggle- but even though my mind is still trapped inside a body that doesn’t want to do what it is supposed to be doing- I am blessed to know that although it’s difficult I can walk, although it’s hard to form the words in my mouth without stuttering I can still talk - My mind is resilient and stubborn and my faith is strong - I know soon I will be strong and soon you will hear me sing like I’ve never sung before!! by @andre.martinezent

Today I had my 1st physio session outside of the hospital- it was really hard to do the simplest things but I did smash it. Although it takes a lot of concentration I do seem to have a lot more balance and strength when I walk with my tripod cane. Hopefully we can trade it in for a normal cane by the next session or so.

My back has also been strapped to help alleviate the spasms that are pulling my shoulders forward. Left side still has weakness and need to work to get my hip flexors to release as they are really tight.

Im tired and drained but I will take the little bit of progress as a win. by @andre.martinezent

Trapped, But Not Defeated

They look at me and see a body,
But they cannot hear the war within.
They do not feel the silent battles
That begin before each day can begin.

My legs remember how to carry dreams,
Yet stumble beneath a stranger’s weight.
My voice, once the home of countless songs,
Now pauses at the hands of fate.

My mind still paints in vibrant colours,
Yet words dissolve before they’re free.
I know exactly what I want to say—
My body simply disagrees.

It is a prison with invisible walls,
No chains for anyone to see.
A cage where every simple movement
Feels borrowed from a memory.

There are days I rage.
There are days I break.
There are days the pain
Is more than I can take.

When muscles twist like storms inside,
When exhaustion steals another dawn,
When I wonder if the man I was
Has somehow forever gone.

But then…

A whisper rises through the silence.
Not from fear—
From somewhere deeper.

A place untouched by damaged pathways.
A place untouched by trembling hands.
A place that knows exactly who I am.

Because I am not this illness.
I am not these spasms.
I am not the stutter,
Nor the weakness,
Nor the endless medications.

I am still the teacher.
Still the healer.
Still the artist.
Still the fighter.

The music has not left me.
It is simply waiting
For my body to remember
The rhythm it once knew.

Every painful step
Is still a step forward.

Every difficult word
Is proof that I have not stopped speaking.

Every therapy session,
Every tear,
Every victory too small for others to notice,
Is another crack
In the walls of this prison.

One day…

My body will no longer hold my spirit hostage.

One day,
The chains will lose their grip.

One day,
The voice that has helped heal so many
Will sing again—not despite the pain,
But because it survived it.

This body may slow me.
It may test me.
It may imprison me for a season.

But it will never own me.

Because I know something
That this illness does not.

The human spirit was never designed
To stay caged forever.

And when the day comes
That I finally break free,

The world will not remember
The body that failed me.

It will remember
The soul
That refused
To surrender. by @andre.martinezent

Hey guys, this is a message from me, André Martinèz ❤️🙏🏼

I’ve been trying to find the words to write this, and for the first time in my life, words have been one of the hardest things to find.

Ironically, I’m still relying on ChatGPT to help me write this because my brain and my speech are still playing catch-up. Hopefully, it won’t be long before I’m back to writing my own ridiculously long posts again!

Last week I suffered a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), or “mini stroke.” What many of you don’t know is that afterwards my condition deteriorated. My speech almost disappeared, I developed a severe stutter, my left side became weak, my vision and hearing were affected, and even simple conversations became incredibly difficult.

After many tests and assessments, my doctors diagnosed me with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), triggered by the TIA. The good news is that my brain hasn’t been permanently damaged—it’s a communication problem between my brain and body, and with treatment and rehabilitation, my specialists are confident that I can make a full recovery.

One of the most emotional moments came when I used one of my own vocal rehabilitation tools that I developed through The Vocal Guru. Within moments, my voice began to break through again. For the first time since this all began, I heard me. It wasn’t perfect, but it gave me something I desperately needed…

Hope.

There is still a long road ahead, but today I have answers, a diagnosis, a treatment plan, and every reason to believe I’ll get back to doing what I love—singing, teaching, helping others find their voices, and yes… writing my own posts again.

To every doctor, nurse, therapist, friend, family member, student, and everyone who has prayed for me or sent messages of support—thank you. You have carried me through some of the hardest days of my life.

Please continue to keep me in your prayers as I continue this journey.

If you know me, you know one thing…

I don’t quit. ❤️

With love and gratitude,

André Martinèz

P.S. I’m still struggling with speech, replying to messages, and phone calls, so please be patient with me. I promise I by @andre.martinezent
