Roy Haynes on “Reflection” off of his record We Three
-
Roy Haynes was one of the first drummers I heard that I felt a strong, natural gravitation toward and helped me realize that jazz is actually cool. Listening to his playing and ideas was a huge step in my own journey. I attempted to quickly bring back this transcription from earlier this year at the end of my practice today as a tribute to a true goat. It’s a little sloppy but you get the point.
RIP Legend

Lil bit of my solo over Con Alma with jazz small group 1 last week 💥💥 I’ve been spending a good chunk of my time this semester on transcriptions and solo vocab to keep things fresh for myself and to continue the lifelong pursuit of finding what actually matters in a good ol drum solo. Still a massive work in progress but a step in the right direction 💰
