We’ve been attending a lot of art-centered events lately, and they’ve been reminding me of something I think I’d forgotten: I am an artist first.

On Sunday, someone asked if I was an artist. Shamefully, I responded, “Former.” I felt a pit in my stomach the second I said it.

Then B pulled me aside and said, “That made me sad to hear you say that. You’re still an artist, babe, even if you haven’t painted in a while.”

She’s right.

Painting was my first creative obsession. It taught me how to make something from nothing. I’m still an artist at my core.

Thank you for reminding me to embrace being multidimensional, B. Stepping into other forms of creativity doesn’t mean I have to leave the ones that shaped me behind.

And thank you to all of you who have shown up here and in person over the years and reminded me that making things matters.

This space started solely with my art. I was blessed enough to live off my craft for years, and I’ll never take that for granted. I even did my own show and allowed people to touch the work (crazy).

To every single person who ever bought a piece, shared my work, offered a kind word, or encouraged me to keep creating, thank you. I’m forever grateful and forever an artist. ❤️‍🔥 by @andreaevolves
