Hamilton’s own Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues to make history on the world stage, all while proudly championing the “underdog city” we’re so lucky to call home.

#HamOnt This is what delivering for Hamilton looks like.

We’re turning an underused site into 512 new long-term care spaces, future housing opportunities and new municipal revenue.

That means more care, more housing and more resources for Hamiltonians.

Thank you to Schlegel Villages for collaborating with the City to make this happen. We’re putting this property back to work for Hamiltonians, today and for generations to come.

#HamOnt My thoughts are with the Hamiltonians affected by today’s two separate house explosions. I sincerely hope that everyone that was hurt is going to recover completely; and my heart goes out to those facing uncertainty and distress as a result of these incidents.

My sincere thanks to Hamilton Fire, Police and all first responders for their swift response and ongoing efforts.

I ask everyone to please give emergency crews and investigators the space and time they need to carry out their important work. taken in Hamilton City Hall by @andreahorwath

#HamOnt Next in our October recognitions is Women’s History Month.

Hamilton has a long history of women who challenged convention, led change, built businesses and organizations, strengthened our neighbourhoods and opened doors for those who followed.

This month, we recognize those who came before us, and the women and girls shaping Hamilton today.

There are still barriers to break and more history to make. taken in Hamilton City Hall by @andreahorwath

#HamOnt I joined Rosemary Barton Live on CBC News to talk about what the Stelco layoffs mean for Hamilton steelworkers, their families and our entire city, and why we cannot let up in the fight against Trump’s tariffs.

These are good-paying jobs that support families, local businesses and our economy. Protecting them means continuing to push the federal and provincial governments to use every tool available, while doing everything we can here at the City to support Hamiltonians through this uncertainty.

That’s why I brought forward my Head of Lake Ontario Plan: to protect workers, support local businesses and strengthen Hamilton’s economy in the face of this trade war.

I will keep fighting for our steelworkers, for Hamilton jobs and for the families who depend on them. The fight is not over. by @andreahorwath

#HamOnt Continuing our October recognitions, we’re marking Latin American Heritage Month.

Hamilton is home to Latin American communities with roots across many countries, each bringing their own histories, experiences and traditions to our city.

This month is a chance to recognize those stories, celebrate what is being carried forward across generations, and acknowledge the important place Latin American Hamiltonians have in our community.

Happy Latin American Heritage Month! by @andreahorwath

#HamOnt I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of life involving a Latitude Air Ambulance flight.

My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of those who were aboard, and to the entire Latitude team as they mourn the loss of their colleagues and friends.

Latitude is part of our Hamilton community, operating out of Hamilton International Airport. On behalf of the City of Hamilton, I extend my deepest condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy. by @andreahorwath

October is a month filled with opportunities to recognize and celebrate the many histories, cultures, communities and traditions that are part of #HamOnt.

Today I am highlighting Canadian Islamic History Month, a time to recognize the history, experiences and contributions of Muslim communities.

Here in Hamilton, our Muslim community is diverse, representing cultures and traditions from around the world. Muslim Hamiltonians are our neighbours, business owners, educators, health-care workers, community leaders, artists, volunteers and so much more.

I encourage Hamiltonians to learn more about Muslim history in Canada and the people and organizations contributing to our city today. taken in Hamilton City Hall by @andreahorwath

#HamOnt September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 🧡

Today, we remember the children who never came home, honour Survivors and their families, and recognize the deep and lasting impacts of residential schools.

Reconciliation is something we all have a role in. It means listening, learning the truth, and taking meaningful action — not just today, but throughout the year.

I encourage everyone in Hamilton to take some time today to listen to Indigenous voices, learn about our shared history and reflect on what reconciliation means to you.

We remember. We listen. And we commit to doing better. 🧡 by @andreahorwath

#HamOnt I’m furious.

I joined CTV today to talk about fighting these Trump tariffs and protecting Hamilton steelworkers.

And I’m more resolved than ever to leave no stone unturned.

My Head of Lake Ontario Plan protects good-paying jobs, supports local businesses and puts Hamiltonians first. I’m pushing our federal and provincial partners to step up fast, while using every lever the @cityofhamilton has to protect our economy and our steelworkers.

We are not done.
