Apparently building my own company wasn’t enough of a challenge, so now I’m applying to eat ice cream with Snoop Dogg for $10,000 a month.

I’d be stupid not to. 😂

But seriously — this might be one of the smartest hiring campaigns I’ve seen. I’d love the chance to learn from the people behind it.

And since I’m in Dubai, I couldn’t show up without bringing an idea of my own.

Dr. Bombay Dubai Chocolate.

Chocolate ice cream. Pistachio swirl. Knafeh crunch.

Tell me that wouldn’t work.

A gift reminder on the day of the birthday is already too late. You panic, then you settle for whatever you can get in two hours. We built Forgift & Forget differently: it's a gifting assistant, not another calendar. It warns you weeks ahead and matches gifts to who the person actually is, so when the day comes, everything's settled. Sorted, weeks early.

My husband suddenly remembers everything. There’s a birthday plan months early.
This is the man who forgot his own parents’ anniversary. So yes, I investigated.
It was the app. It’s in our bio.

When they say “I don’t need anything,” they mean “don’t stress about me.”
Meanwhile: the concert next year, their favourite author, that thing they mentioned once.
We built the app that catches the hints. It’s in our bio.

My wife doesn't forget gifts. She cares so much that picking one becomes a whole thing.
If that's you too, you're who we built this for. It's in our bio.

I forgot my parents' anniversary. While building an app that stops you forgetting dates.
My wife's take: "that's why he needs Forgift & Forget."
She's not wrong. It's in our bio.

My wife and I used to work for a resident circus show. She was the Choreographer, I was the Head Coach.

Morale was low, so we started a “Riddle of the Week.” Whoever got it right won. But instead of handing out some generic prize, my wife had this idea. She sent the winner a short list of questions. Favorite color, interests, things they actually cared about. Then she picked a gift based on their answers.

People didn’t just like the gifts. They felt seen. The reaction was always bigger than the reward. That stuck with us.

Fast forward, a friend comes to me with a business pitch. Automated flowers for guys who forget. I said no. Market’s crowded, everybody does flowers. But I told him I’d think about it.

That night I’m talking to my wife. “What if it was more than flowers?” What if you could send experiences, not just products. Amazon, Ticketmaster, things people actually want.

Next morning the ideas wouldn’t stop. We needed a name. Foresight. Forget-Me-Nots. Forgive and Forget. Then it clicked. Forgift and Forget. My wife just said, “I like that.” Called my friend back. Told him we’re building something bigger.

The woman behind the whole idea still forgets my birthday. Every single year.

He said it again this year. "I don't need anything." Same tone he uses for "I'm fine" with a pulled back, and "it's nothing" while the smoke alarm is going.

So this year we ran an experiment. Nobody argued with him. We just paid attention. In March he held a neighbour's cordless drill for a suspiciously long time. In June he read a review of a pizza oven OUT LOUD, to no one, twice. In August he mentioned, apropos of nothing, that his good belt was "from the Clinton administration."

The man is a museum of hints. He just refuses to know he's giving tours.

We got him the drill. He said "you didn't have to do that" in a voice that meant the exact opposite, then found four things to fix in one afternoon. Two of them were not broken.

"I don't need anything" was never information. It was a test of whether we were listening.

My dad has never said "I'm proud of you." He says "text me when you land."
Every flight. Every trip. Since I was 19 and leaving for a college degree he didn't understand but helped pay for anyway.
For years I thought it was just anxiety. Then I noticed — he doesn't ask when I'm driving to the grocery store. Just planes. Just the moments he can't do anything about, can't fix, can't reach.
"Text me when you land" means: I can't protect you right now, so please just tell me you're safe.
Last month I landed at 11pm. Texted him before I even got my bag. Three dots appeared instantly.
"Good. Go home."
That's it. That's the whole conversation. That's twenty-six years of love in just a few words.

ry birthday in this family arrives on time because of her. Three calendars — paper, phone, and the one nobody can see.

She knows her brother-in-law is allergic to wool BEFORE buying the sweater. She knows which niece is off sugar this year and which one would riot without it. She has moved Father's Day dinner twice, two years running, around a fishing trip nobody told her about until after. She found out. She always finds out.

Here's the inventory nobody has ever done: forty-one birthdays, nine anniversaries, the vet schedule, the teacher gifts, and one husband who signs cards forty seconds before they're handed over, still warm from her hands.

And when HER birthday comes? A group text. Started at 4pm. By her sister. "We should do something for Amal??"

Two question marks. For the woman who is the reason this family has ever done anything on time.

Somebody plan for the planner. She would never ask.

My phone congratulated me on a friendship anniversary I did not know we had.

Eight years since the day Dana and I got locked out of our first apartment and ate an entire rotisserie chicken on the stairwell waiting for the locksmith. I know the date now because I put it in the app during a sentimental episode last fall, labeled "chicken day," and forgot doing it.

The reminder went off at 9am. I sent her one text: "happy chicken day." She replied in eleven seconds — ELEVEN — with a photo of her own stairwell, current building, no chicken, just her sitting there grinning like it was 2018.

People keep asking if outsourcing your remembering to an app is cheating. I don't know what to tell you. The chicken was eight years ago and she answered in eleven seconds.

Whatever this is, it's working.
