I hate to admit it, but I wasted precious time and opportunities with my first two books. I didn’t seek beta readers or critique partners like I should have. I “pantsed” majority of the plot. I rushed through the editing process and queried too early before my books were ready. And it showed. The rejections rolled in. No one offered me representation. Those books died in the query trenches and now sit on my hard drive. Maybe I’ll dip back into them, but most likely, not.🤷🏼‍♀️

For my third book, I sought feedback and let the notes marinate before diving back in. I took my time, and the hard work paid off. After an extensive rewrite, the agent who gave me a R&R (revise & resubmit) offered me representation.😅 Thanks, @brandyvallanceauthor !!!❤️

It’s a good thing we learn as we write. My fourth book is undergoing a series of edits before my agent will even see it. I almost rushed it again.😘

Writers, I know you’re anxious/excited to get your book baby out into the world, but give it the time it deserves. Otherwise, you’ll be kicking yourself later.

Trust the process; don’t rush the process.❤️

This is my 4th completed book, and let me just say, it was not an easy one to finish. In truth, no book is easy to write and finish—period! But thank the Lord for my family and friends who showered me with kindness and encouragement while I struggled with writer’s block and imposter syndrome. And of course, I want to thank my lovely agent, @brandyvallanceauthor , for being my biggest fan and cheerleader!!!❤️🙏🏻

I’m sooo close to finishing my YA horror book, Bug Girl. I’d be lying if I said writing is easy. I’ve taken almost a year of obsessive perfecting, editing, rewriting scenes that don’t fit, fixing plot holes while scrubbing my hair in the shower—Why is it always the shower?—researching bug facts, and drowning in imposter syndrome to write this book. None of my 4 books have been easy to write, but that’s the beauty of developing the craft. You learn a lot about yourself through the process, the pitfalls, and the wins.🙂

I write because I love it.
I write because I must.❤️
I write to keep my mental health from floundering, even though publishing would argue otherwise. I’m still in a waiting period with my YA horror/dystopian.

But regardless of your goal, finish what you started, no matter how long it takes. Your future self will thank you.😘❤️

P.S. This is my accountability post.😘
P.S.S. My lovely literary agent @brandyvallanceauthor coined the phrase, “slutty idea.”😂
