My final shoot of last year was a truly special one. @russianready is an artist I’ve admired since my teenage years, and my awe for her only deepens with time. Back in March, I went with my twin @chloewallace_ to see her extraordinary show ‘NO VOY A CANTAR CIGARRETES’, and I was left completely stunned by her artistry, her fearless improvisation, her ability to captivate an audience, and of course, that otherworldly voice.

If you want to understand what I mean, you need to experience her upcoming residency, ‘ROJO RELATIVO’. I had the honor of shooting the image for its poster, along with many more photographs that bring the universe of this show to life, which are coming very soon. This is not one to miss.

Thank you, Lou, for your trust. Creating together has been a pleasure every step of the way. And thank you to the stellar team who helped make this vision a reality.

@russianready sent me a demo of this song after our first meeting to discuss the visuals for her upcoming residency show, ‘Rojo Relativo’, some of which are featured here. I remember listening to it on the bus at night, moving through my city, Madrid. I fell in love with it right then. Now it’s out in the world and everyone else gets the chance to fall in love with it too.

In the final scene of 𝗥𝗮𝘁 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴, Rat King finally surrenders to his true nature, transforming into a rat like a werewolf under a full moon, before ultimately betraying his loyal apprentice.

Fun fact 🪄 every character in Rat King is symbolically tied to an animal. Rat King, the rat. Laila, the cat. Leon, the bird. River, the fox. In this climactic moment, as River walks toward his fate, a real fox wandered into frame and slipped through a doorway at the exact same time he did. Not planned. Just magic on camera.

Rat King is coming to the end of its festival journey. This film has taught us more than we could ever put into words. Ideas find us exactly when we need them and this story was no exception.
