Today, March 13, 2026, is the day I lost one of the most important role models of my life- mi Abuelito preferido, my only grandpa. A man who single-handedly raised my mom and uncle. A son and brother who stayed devoted to his family and never stopped showing up for the people he loved. And the most loving grandfather my siblings and I could have ever asked for. Our relationship was so special that words will never fully define it. It was something you had to feel. Something you had to witness. As I move forward in this short life, my goal is simple: to make you proud. To carry every word of wisdom you ever gave me and live by it. One thing about my abuelito- he was a warrior. Back in December he suffered his third heart attack. By every measure, it should have taken him from us. But somehow, miraculously, he came back. He fought his way back to life and gave us three more months. Not because it was easy, but because he truly didn’t want to leave. He loved living. He loved being here. He never wanted life to stop. And the most incredible part is that we never lost him for a single second. His body may have been failing, but his mind, his spirit, his heart- those were always there, just as strong as ever. The first thing he told me after he came back was that he just celebrated his second birthday. That was the kind of man he was. Even in the lowest moments, he chose life. He chose gratitude. He chose to keep going. He lived life fully until the very end, and that fighting spirit- that love for life- is something I will carry with me forever. An example I hope to live by every single day. For those who are lucky enough to still have their grandparents with them: spend time with them. Call them. Listen to them. Time is limited, and we never know when the last goodbye will come. Rodolfo, thank you for everything. As I carry your name through my life, all I ask is for your guidance and protection from above. And one day, I’ll see you again on that sailboat where we promised we’d meet… navigating the oceans together. Rest easy🫂❤️🕊️ by @andreas.infante
