And just Like that the Journey stArted...
.
Proud and honoured to be the first and only Greek photographer that published in Italian Vogue until now, under the guidance, vision and trust of my dearest Franca Sozzani.
.
She always hand-picked very few of the artists that works with her.
.
What I didn't realise back then is that she choosed me not only for my aesthetic or the cinematic ways I've seen things as she told me herself, but to creating the trends and not following them, for the upcoming seasons globally, and through Italian Vogue, Franca Sozzani trusted me and gave me the freedom, to develop originals visual directions and colour language than went on to influence the seasonal aesthetic , adopted across the beauty industry worldwide.

Eight-page editorial | Photography: Andreas Stavrinides

Vogue Italia editorial was an twelve-page story created specifically for the magazine.
Franca Sozzani personally selected me for the assignment. The red-and-black lips photograph formed part of this editorial.

The accompanying Italian beauty article explores the symbolic contrast of red and black across fragrance, fashion, and makeup. Christian Lacroix associates red with life, sensuality and passion, while black evokes mystery and elegance. The article connects these opposing colours to art, literature and culture, then discusses fragrances and beauty looks that bring the two together. Red lips, smoky eyes, and the chiaroscuro interplay of colour emerge as its defining visual themes.

''Christian Lacroix says:

“I was inspired by my love of red. I brought to life a powerful and proud fragrance, just like a woman who possesses the energy of life, sensuality and passion.

Black, on the other hand, evokes a sense of mystery and elegance. In other words, the character of the modern man.”

From this reflection, two perfumes were born: Rouge et Noir, feminine and masculine respectively, both bearing the couturier’s signature and created in collaboration with Avon Cosmetics.

An olfactory project that draws upon an ancient symbolic chromatic duality, rich in historical and cultural references.

These references are far from merely intellectual abstractions. Apart from Stendhal, the opposition between black and red represents a vivid and ever-relevant dialectic.

Red is fire, the traffic light, the little red riding hood of fairy tales, a field of poppies by Monet, the struggle against AIDS and the latest Valentino fetish.

Black, meanwhile, is night, elegance, history, social rebellion and comedy. It is the life of Avella. Passion unites them.

A mixture of the two.

Opposites united — as in the flags of the anarchists or of Milan — become complementary.

José Eisenberg knows this well. For his new Eau de Parfum, Rouge et Noir, he has brought together a true mosaic of different yet harmonious olfactory emotions.

This makeup confirms it too, having always embraced the black-and-red combination.

And in the latest collections, a new ultra-glam wave is emerging, such as the one created by Mark Carrasquillo for Calvin Klein.

The range of eyeshadow shades dedicated to smoky-eye makeup — see also Ombretto Intenso Mono Duo — is matched only by the variety of lipsticks, including Rossetto in Crema, available in shades of red.
The autumn/winter collection by Yves Saint Laurent also focuses on the refinement of chromatic contrasts.

Its six Ombres Duolumières, a special edition, were conceived precisely from the idea of playing with a chiaroscuro effect.

And, for an enchantment that only haute couture makeup can create, Blue Légende is blended with Gris Chimère, resulting in a black and red... " / Next page follows.
