PUNK IN GENT DEEL 1: In kleine zalen verspreid over Gent ontstaat een wereld waarin iedereen
elkaar kent of ooit wel eens is tegengekomen. Muzikanten kijken naar
elkaars shows, delen affiches, vervangen elkaar in bands en bouwen samen
verder aan een scene die constant verandert maar nooit stilvalt. Overdag zitten sommigen in leslokalen politicologie, fotografie of geneeskunde te studeren, ’s avonds verdwijnen ze in cafés en concertzalen waar alles veel luider mag zijn. taken in Ghent, Belgium by @andreas_mussche

1/3 This year has truly been one of the best years of my life! I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with @boythecollector and @canonbelgium , and to work on set with @dimitrivegasandlikemike to create some incredible visuals.

With the amazing equipment provided by Canon and the invaluable guidance from the entire team, I was able to capture photos I’m incredibly proud of. This experience was the absolute highlight of my year!

I met so many inspiring people along the way, and the memories we made will stay with me forever. I even cut my holiday short for this opportunity—and I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.

PUNK IN GENT deel 4: De scene is luid, chaotisch, intiem en voortdurend vernieuwend. Toch ligt de meest unieke eigenschap van Gentse punk vandaag in hoe het volledig verschillende mensen samenbrengt en hen via muziek bewust maakt van problemen die spelen in de wereld rondom hen. taken in Ghent, Belgium by @andreas_mussche

PUNK IN GENT deel 3: Iedereen ziet er anders uit. Tweedehands, DIY, glitter, leer, bandshirts of gewoon iets uit de winkel. Geen uniforme scene, maar een groep jongeren die elkaar blijven vinden via muziek en dezelfde nood voelen om iets te maken.

Gent geeft die wereld ruimte om te groeien. Cafés, organisaties en
scholen werken hier bijna als een serre voor nieuwe bands en ideeën. Wat ooit lokaal begint, belandt via sociale media snel veel verder dan alleen in de stad. taken in Ghent, Belgium by @andreas_mussche

PUNK IN GENT deel 2: Waar punk vroeger draaide rond shockeren en afbreken, draait het
vandaag rond verbinden en uitspreken. Punk groeit tussen schoolbanken, repetitiekoten en cafés waar de vloer blijft plakken van bier en zweet.
Metal, hardcore, grunge en punk lopen hier door elkaar
alsof het nooit afzonderlijke genres zijn geweest.

Gesprekken over oorlog, kapitalisme, feminisme,
racisme, mentale druk en alles wat blijft wringen in deze tijd
lopen hier even hard door elkaar als de muziekgenres zelf. taken in Ghent, Belgium by @andreas_mussche

Jonge bands, kleine zalen, alles veel te dicht op elkaar. Zweet, lawaai en geen filter.
Mensen die iets kwijt moeten en het gewoon zeggen. Hoe slechter den tijd, hoe luider da het klinkt.

“Chairman” is een nummer dat de spot drijft met de hypocrisie van nepotisme. Het gaat over hoe iemand simpelweg door zijn achternaam aan de top belandt, CEO of Chairman, maakt niet uit, zonder echt te weten waar hij mee bezig is. Onwetend, lui of gewoon ongeïnteresseerd groeit hij uit tot dé Chairman: iemand die meer bezig is met zijn kapsel, schoeisel of horloge dan met zijn werknemers, hun welzijn of een eerlijke structuur binnen het bedrijf.

Vergelijk dit met figuren zoals Patrick Bateman uit American Psycho: altijd druk in de weer, maar zelden echt aan het werk. Veel schijn, weinig inhoud.

Kortom: als een positie niet verdiend wordt maar cadeau gegeven, is die troon dan eigenlijk niet gewoon een stoel met meer versiering?

“Chairman” is a song that mocks the hypocrisy of nepotism. It’s about how someone can rise to the top simply because of their last name: becoming a CEO or Chairman, without really knowing what they’re doing. Ignorant, lazy, or just uninterested, he grows into the Chairman: someone more concerned with his hairstyle, shoes, or watch than with his employees, their well-being, or a fair company-structure.

Compare this to figures like Patrick Bateman from American Psycho: always working hard, but hardly working. Their appearance is everything.

In short: if a position isn’t earned but simply given, isn’t that throne really just a chair with extra ornaments?

Beide bands gaven het beste van zichzelf, waardoor het publiek op 123 in hun binnenzak belandde … 🫶❤️
