My friend Fred is always saying, “You have to show up to get your blessing.” So last Friday, after a busy week of wedding festivities, Joe and I decided to slow down for a few hours and take in Dolly Parton’s “Threads” at the symphony.

One seat away, I heard the unmistakable siren call of a British accent. I couldn’t help myself.😁

“Are you from England?”

Her name was Laura, and she had traveled to Nashville - all by herself (how brave!) - to see Alan Jackson in concert.

She apologized for getting emotional, but her heart was so full of gratitude for the trip that it simply overflowed through her tears. I completely understood.

After the symphony, we lingered in the lobby talking. Before long, I learned she had become a Christian just last year. I wanted to hear more of her story, so we went to lunch, exchanged phone numbers, and in no time at all, we were friends. Sunday dinner was followed by Monday pizza. She’ll head home tomorrow, but our friendship will remain.

So here’s my lesson, my encouragement: Talk to strangers. Sometimes all it takes is a simple question to discover a beautiful story, a shared faith, and a friendship you never expected. Sometimes a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet. 💕 by @andreashelton01
