No Bananas! There's never been a @zeitmagazin like this: Maurizio Cattelan (@mauriziocattelan), famous for works like "Him," the kneeling Hitler, or "America," the golden toilet, designed the current issue together with us.

The occasion: starting September 10, the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin will host Cattelan's first comprehensive solo exhibition in Germany, titled "Night." He won this year's Nationalgalerie Prize. After the real Brandenburg Gate on our first cover, you'll see a new work on the second: Cattelan's Brandenburg Gate. We're showing it in the current @ZEITmagazin for the very first time. For this, we flew with him to Milan and were able to watch it come to life in the workshops.

In Memoriam: Yayoi Kusama (1929–2026)

She was a true visionary. Decades before her polka dots and infinity rooms captivated the world, this early work already revealed Kusama's raw emotional depth. Her art gave millions a way to see infinity for themselves.

Die Zeiten ändern sich. Times they are a changing. Just watching the 2024 Series about American Vogue and the 90's. Lucky enough I was part of it for a short time. Started working in the Media Bizz in 1997 in Hamburg (not London, not NYC though). The 90's influenced me strongly and I can still feel the vibe until today.. The music, the fashion, the politics. I mean I was 15 in 1990. So that's an super-important phase for a huming being. Really growing up. Anyway this series I found on Disney really pulled me back to this decade. Of course Amber Valetta and Peter were so important figures in those days. This ZEIT Magazin Cover from 2015 shows Amber at the Beach in California photographed by Peter Lindbergh. A true tribute to the 90s. We miss you Pit! .

I don't think there's anyone I've ever met who told me more anecdotes about the Paris Bar in Berlin, about Vienna in the 80s, Kippenberger and Helmut Lang and all the other "Zeitgenossen" than Elfie Semotan did on 2 consecutive days in 2006. We invited her to photograph for amagazine project for the Schirrmacher's FAZ, we had photographed a whole collection of Berliners together. Everyone wanted to impress her. Everyone flirted with her and the camera. I will never forget that. Now Elfie has passed away, while swimming in a pool in Jennersdorf. The queen is dead. Your will be missed!
