People who stopped by Gutbusters Breakfast on July 25 were treated to an early-morning blessing: free food.

The group behind the event was a relatively new nonprofit Christian ministry called Bloom, and leading the group was its founder, Annette Groves.

That morning in Decatur, volunteers also offered prayer, Bibles and conversation. Groves says she wants to see more churches meet people where they are and respond to those in need.

Groves is a 48-year-old single mother and minister based in Stone Mountain. She was inspired to start the ministry in 2025 when her godson, Elijah McMillon, asked her to lead what would become the first Bloom meeting. She said McMillon asked her to create a space for young adults seeking to turn their lives around to worship together and strengthen their faith.

She chose the name because she believes people, like seeds, often grow unseen before reaching their full potential.

What started in a living room with three people — Groves, her daughter, Sydni Foster, and McMillon — 18 months ago, now has almost 100 members.

This is the best story I’ve ever written and it was such a pleasure learning about the limb loss and limb difference community and the work that So Everybody Can Move does. I tried my best to do justice to such a layered and incredible story in just over 1000 words and if anybody seeing this has about 7 minutes to spare, please read it. Thank you to @kberk10 for setting this story in motion and to everyone with the @soeverybodycanmovega team that I got the pleasure to speak with. Link in bio. by @andrebutso2002
