I learned to be a good girl and it almost killed me

You know that feeling that no matter how much air you take in, you still can't breathe? I was looking at the fish struggling on land as they open their mouths and slowly suffocate. Overwhelming, that's what I called this feeling. And I fought against him my whole life. I resisted, I waved my hands and mouth and head to attack it, to kill it. To prove that I can. I never once asked myself WHY I fight? WHO am I fighting for? It was clear. I fight to be good. If someone asked me what good means to me, I wouldn't know the answer.
To be a good girl, that's what I learned: to listen to my mother, whatever she tells me, because she sacrificed herself for me, to raise me, to feed me. It doesn't matter that I didn't agree with what she said, that it hurt me deeply and I didn't understand why I should do what she said. I made you, I kill you, that's all I got. And even if deep in my soul I knew it wasn't good, even if I said I didn't want to, in the end I did everything she said, to be good to her, not to hurt her, because others have already hurt her, I'll protect her. And I lied to myself that I said what was in my soul, I said that I am not ok to do this, and just saying that, it started a release process. Until my skin cried with tears of pus, with pain and inflammation and open wounds all over the surface. I almost died, it took years for my body to heal.

I have always been an articulate person. I am smart, so I can talk…about anything, the substance of the universe, mythology, science. My least favourite subject: what I want, what I need. I did not have the voice to express that, it all ended somewhere between my throat and my chest, like a weight that kept me from talking. I remember a zumba class where the instructor told me I could scream: I opened my mouth and nothing came out. I learned slowly to link each of my wants and needs to words and then force them up until I could actually hear myself speak them. And feel them. And act on them.

We don’t burn out overnight.

It starts small…

A bit of stress.
A few ignored signals.
Pushing through when your body says “rest.”
And then one day… it forces you to stop.

In my latest podcast episode, I spoke to Dr. Andreea Pausan who went through a severe burnout that shut her body down completely.

Her biggest lesson?

👉 Your body is always talking to you.
You just have to listen.

We also talked about:
✨ Why alcohol feels like stress relief (but makes it worse)
✨ How being “strong” and “high-performing” can come at a cost
✨ Why we use coping mechanisms (and why that’s not your fault)
✨ Simple ways to reconnect with your body and emotions

One powerful takeaway:

💬 “Stay with the body. Ask it — what can you do for me today?”

If you’ve been feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or stuck in habits you want to change… this episode is for you.

The book I wish I had when I was figuring out how to stay healthy and do my work. by @andreeapausan

You want to rest and you say Later. You can do it. But you also give your body a clear signal: rest is not allowed. Every time you don't stop, you reinforce the message, to the point that you can't stop. When you do, you become restless, and need to move.

The solution? Stop, for 3 minutes.
Why? 1. The body gets a bit of rest. 2. The message changes to: I feel listened to. 3. You get more energy and new ideas after.
Your thoughts?

Working in progress: Easter food, cleaning the house, building the sales page for the new guide Still Here, the Daily Reset Method for the professional who is performing fine on the outside and quietly coming apart on the inside.

What kind of practices would you like to have in a guide like that?

Practical tip: when you move from one activity to another, take a short break first, or you'll try to stir the pot with a pen 😀

Blessings everyone!

Sometimes, it gets too much. It feels good to let it out, to allow the explosion. Do you fear it's too much? Time it. Set an alarm to stop, and dare to let go.

It's now about knowing HOW, but knowing you CAN do it. This is part of what I teach my clients: to hold the tension.

“When we focus on what we fear, we tune our radio to a low-frequency broadcast.”

In a recent chat with friends, Adina shared a funny-yet-poignant story about ‘getting the middle seat’ on a recent flight. She was so focused on NOT getting the middle seat that the universe, with its literal sense of humour, put her there twice.

Adina’s anecdote is a fun analogy for how many of us live our lives:

1. The resistance: We focus intensely on what we fear or dislike.

2. The fix: We frantically move around the ‘outer reality’ (trying to swap seats, changing jobs for the wrong reasons, or manipulating external circumstances) to escape our discomfort.

3. The boomerang: Because our internal focus hasn’t changed, the outer reality eventually snaps back to match our original worry.

In our latest blog article, Victoria invites discussion on our ‘global middle seat’ and suggests helpful tools 🛠️ 🥰🙏🏼 https://netnomads.online/blog/the-global-middle-seat/
