Plot twist: the rain couldn’t stop us after all. 😂🌧️🎨

And stay until the end for the best view yet. 👀

The color is officially going down!

After a few weather delays, we’re back at it, and SmithQuest is really starting to come to life. What started as measurements, outlines, primer, and a whole lot of white paint is now becoming the colorful, interactive space we’ve been working toward.

We’re getting closer and closer to the finish line, and I can’t wait to show you the completed project. 👀

SmithQuest is made possible by a grant to @playfullearninglandscapes from the @williampennfoundation, with game design generously provided pro bono by @metarchdesign.

More to come! 🎨🛝✨

Last night was the official Welcome Reception for Fitler Club’s Artist in Residence 4.0, and I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who came out to celebrate this new chapter with me and the other artists in this year’s cohort.

There’s something special about seeing the work installed, sharing the stories behind it, connecting with new faces, and having so many familiar ones show up to support.

My work has taken me into a lot of different spaces over the years, but moments like this remind me to appreciate the journey and how much can grow from simply continuing to create.

I’m excited for what this residency will bring, the relationships that will come from it, and the work still ahead.

Thank you to Fitler Club for welcoming us, and thank you to everyone who made last night feel so special.

POV: You’re an outdoor muralist and the forecast has other plans. 😂🌧️🎨

And yes… the video really does end there. 😂 Right in the middle of filming.

When you’re painting a ground mural, weather plays a huge role in the installation process. Rain doesn’t just mean getting wet it can affect how paint adheres to the surface, how it dries and cures, and ultimately how well the finished mural holds up over time.

That means sometimes the best decision an artist can make is not to paint.

Throughout the SmithQuest installation at Smith Memorial Playground, I’ve had to keep a close eye on the forecast and plan each stage around the weather. With multiple layers from surface preparation and primer to the base coat, colors, and final protective coating each step needs the right conditions before moving on to the next.

It can definitely slow down the process, but when you’re creating something that will be walked, played, jumped, and run on, durability matters more than rushing to the finish line.

So when you see an outdoor mural taking a little longer than expected, there might just be a rain cloud somewhere holding up production. 😂🌧️

Banner Artist Spotlight: Andre Chaney

Andre Chaney is a public artist, illustrator, and author whose work transforms everyday spaces into moments of wonder. Inspired by the communities he serves, he creates immersive experiences that spark imagination, connection, and hope.

When asked about the inspiration behind his banner design, Andre said, “For this series, I wanted to capture the quiet transformation that happens on South Street as the day gives way to night. As the light changes, so does the rhythm of the neighborhood, revealing moments of beauty, connection, and wonder that are easy to overlook in the rush of everyday life.”

The South Street Banner Art Project is a public art initiative led by the South Street Headhouse District that transforms the corridor into a more vibrant, welcoming, and visually engaging destination.

Featuring original artwork by local Philadelphia artists, these banners amplify the incredible talent of the city’s creative community while also enhancing the streetscape and honoring South Street’s longstanding history as a place for artists, creatives, and countercultures.

This beautification project aims to foster a stronger sense of place, strengthen community pride, and create a more memorable experience for residents and visitors alike.

We are currently spotlightling each featured artist and the story behind their design.

WE BACK! & We’re excited to introduce SmithQuest — a new outdoor playful learning adventure coming to Smith Memorial Playground! 🎨🎲

Created in partnership with @playfullearninglandscapes , SmithQuest is a life-sized board game featuring 3D elements and a colorful painted ground mural designed to invite children and families to move, think, and create as they make their way through an interactive pathway.

Over the next few weeks, muralist @andrenchaney will be on site bringing the custom game to life and sharing moments from throughout the creative process — from mapping and painting to the final transformation.

SmithQuest is made possible by a grant from the @williampennfoundation, with game design generously provided pro bono by @metarchdesign.

We’re excited to watch this space transform and can’t wait to share more as the project takes shape!

Stay tuned for behind-the-scenes updates and the official unveiling ceremony next month! 🎃

DUSK 🌙 As daylight disappears, the world doesn’t become any less full of wonder. Sometimes, you just have to look a little closer to find it.

DUSK is the second piece from The Wonder Atlas, exploring that space between day and night when familiar places begin to feel different and imagination has a little more room to wander.

Inspired by the stories, characters, and worlds that shaped my imagination as a child, this piece is filled with small references waiting to be discovered some obvious, some hidden.

Created as part of my Fitler Club Artist in Residence 4.0 experience, DUSK continues the journey that began with DAWN.

Because sometimes the end of the day is just the beginning of another adventure. 🌙✨

DUSK 🌙

Every piece starts somewhere.

A sketch. A few references. A color palette. An idea slowly finding its way into a world of its own.

The next chapter of Wonder Atlas explores that moment when daylight disappears and the world begins to feel a little different quieter, deeper, and full of possibility.

A look behind the process before the full reveal this Friday.

The best part about this project is knowing that the work doesn’t end with the ribbon cutting. Kids and families from all over will walk into this space, play beneath these walls, create memories here, and experience something we all had a hand in bringing to life.

Grateful to everyone at Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Philadelphia Region who trusted me with this space, to everyone who helped bring the vision to life, and to everyone who came out to celebrate its completion.

The paint is finished, but the life of the space is just beginning. ❤️

And just like that, this project is complete. 🌱🎨

What started as an opportunity to create quickly became an opportunity to do something even more meaningful to become more than just the artist, but a partner.

That partnership gave me the chance to bring other aspiring artists alongside me, giving them space to create, learn, contribute, and have some light shed on their work too. As I continue to grow as an artist, I’m learning that growth isn’t only about the opportunities I’m able to step into, but what I can do with those opportunities once I’m there and how I can make room for someone else to step in with me.

And maybe one of the most special parts of this project is knowing just how many children will get to experience this space. Kids and families coming from different places, with different stories, will be able to walk into this courtyard and find a little color, imagination, play, and joy waiting for them.

There’s something pretty incredible about knowing that something we created here will become a small part of so many childhood memories.

I’m grateful for everyone who had a hand in bringing this space to life and for the trust that allowed us to turn an idea into something children and families can experience for years to come.

The mural may be finished, but I hope what was created here reaches far beyond the paint. 💛

Huge shoutout to @ronaldmcdonaldhousephilly for bringing this to life ❤️
