grateful to be joining the recording academy 🤍 @grammys this moment carries so much meaning. as an asian kid growing up in philly, i rarely saw people who looked like me in spaces like this, which made it hard to imagine that one day, this could be my reality. today, i have the privilege of joining an organization where i can help champion greater representation + advocate for the voices + stories that deserve to be heardi’m reminded of every setback, every uncertainty + every person who questioned my decision to pursue music - especially when i packed up my life and moved across the country to chase my dream, not knowing what would come next. there were moments when the path felt impossible but every obstacle taught me resilience, every challenge gave me perspective + every “no” made this “yes” that much more meaningfulmore than anything, i’m honored to represent the communities that made me who i am - the asian community, the lgbtq+ community + every artist who’s ever wondered if there was space for them in this industry. i hope that by showing up authentically, i can help create more room for the next generation to dream even biggereverything i do is for my younger self - that little kid with dreams far bigger than the world around him. i hope he’d be proud. i hope he knows it was all worth ithere’s to continuing to dream bigger, opening more doors + making sure the next generation can see themselves in spaces like these ✨#IAmTheAcademy by @andrepak

feeling hAAPI 🤍✨As we wrap up Asian Heritage Month, I’m filled with so much gratitude.Growing up as a Cambodian-Vietnamese kid, I never saw anyone who looked like me in music. The dream felt distant. Being able to create a space where our community can gather, celebrate and see themselves reflected in this industry feels incredibly meaningful.Standing in a room with 300 people celebrating Asian creatives, executives, artists and leaders was something I don’t think my younger self could have imagined. Seeing so many people who LOOK like me thriving in their fields reminded me exactly why representation matters.This event was a two-month labor of love and the biggest undertaking I’ve ever taken on - from finding a venue to bringing together panelists, performers and partners. It truly took a village.A special shoutout to @gaaabey, my partner in bringing this event to life. What started as an idea became a room full of 300 people coming together in the name of community. From our earliest planning conversations to seeing everything come to life on the day of, I’m so grateful we got to build something bigger than ourselves and create this space together.And to our incredible team @scottshimaaa @fuadabigail @acrosstheaniverse @bichelle_123 @tamankhuc - thank you for your support, energy and dedication in helping bring this vision to life, along with our generous sponsors who believed in this vision and helped make it possible! @newwavebrewingco @drinkkace @chiforest As Kel said: if nobody gives you a seat at the table, make your own.
