Subterranean Drift: A Liminal Subway Crawl to The Slow Rush

Step off the grid and into the echoey, fluorescent-lit labyrinth beneath the city. This curated transit crawl treats the subway not as a daily commute, but as a series of architectural non-places and psychological time-capsules.

We will trace a precise route across the system to explore the uncanny geometry, acoustic geography, and shifting eras of Toronto’s subterranean architecture—entirely synced to the hypnotic, time-bending pulse of Tame Impala’s The Slow Rush.

Event Details

Date: September 28, 2026

Meet-Up Time: 4:30 PM

Crawl Time: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Meeting Point: Sheppard-Yonge Station (Concourse level / main entrance)

What to Bring: A valid PRESTO pass, comfortable walking shoes, headphones, your own copy of The Slow Rush loaded up to play, and plenty of water.

The Soundtrack: The Slow Rush

Kevin Parker’s The Slow Rush is an album fundamentally obsessed with the passage of time, cycles, memory, and the strange feeling of watching years slip by in an instant. Underground, where time loses its meaning under unchanging fluorescent strips and rhythmic track clatter, the album’s shimmering synth lines, driving bass loops, and wistful lyricism take on an entirely new dimension.

As we drift through empty corridors and concrete vaults, tracks like “One More Year” and “Borderline” will turn our subterranean transit migration into a meditative, cinematic journey about motion, memory, and momentum. Hit play as we descend at Sheppard-Yonge and let the music dictate the rhythm of our drift.

What happens when the architecture forgets how to end? 🌀

We are descending into the spaces in between. On September 11th, @liminalassembly and me @andrestjuan3 invites you to a public drift through the concrete echoes and forgotten geometries of the city, guided by the structural vertigo of House of Leaves, the silent, endless halls of Piranesi, and the disorienting static of The Backrooms.
We gather under the open sky at the granite rocks of Village of Yorkville Park to speak of impossible rooms and places that shouldn’t exist. Then, we put on the headphones—tuning into a frequency of lost city pop and low-level ambient drift—and leave the surface behind.
Bring a notebook. Bring a pen. Bring your headphones. Leave your sense of direction at the threshold.

Liminal Book Club: Liminal spaces in literature and media

Hosted in collaboration with Liminal Assembly

Step away from the city above and descend into the spaces in between.

Join us on September 11th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM for an immersive exploration of architectural dread, nostalgia, and spatial disorientation. Inspired by the infinite halls of Piranesi, the shifting geometry of House of Leaves, and the sterile corridors of Backrooms lore, this gathering examines how built environments shape our psychology—and how we can capture those feelings on the page.

The Itinerary

Phase 1: The Gathering (4:00 PM)

We begin outdoors at the granite boulders of the Village of Yorkville Park. We’ll kick off with an open discussion on liminality in literature and media, welcoming both seasoned fans and curious newcomers.

Phase 2: The Silent Disco Descent

From the rocks, we’ll hand out multi-channel silent disco headphones. Tuned to a custom soundtrack of atmospheric Japanese city pop, ambient drone, and immersive audio, we will leave the open air behind and guide a silent procession down into the subterranean concrete labyrinth of the surrounding area.

Phase 3: The Creative Pause

Deep within the transit corridors and brutalist architecture, we’ll pause for a guided writing and sketching session. Armed with pocket notebooks, participants will be encouraged to document the room, map an impossible space, or write a micro-vignette inspired by the environment around them.

What to Bring

Comfortable walking shoes (we will be moving between outdoor pavement and concrete stairs/floors).

A small notebook and pen/pencil for the creative writing and sketching portion.

An open mind for the uncanny.
