One of the greatest gift God gave me was meeting Methuse back in 1995 and then blessing me with Calvin in 2009. Many times we get caught up in the rat race and get tunnel visioned that our priorities in life get shifted. It doesn’t matter what you own that makes you a winner. It’s the joy you seen in the ones you love the most. I still fight tooth and nail to bring them all that I can but days like today remind me how lucky I am to have what I have and to be able to spend it like I do. Waking up to news that Bourdain just took his own life is devastating. I’m not really hyped on celebrities cause many of them don’t have much substance. Anthony captured my attention from the moment I first seen him back in the early 2000s. His talent for writing and passion for food was beyond anyone else in the game. He was funny, sophisticated and RAW as fuck and I think that’s what originally drew me to him. He didn’t give a fuck, he said what he wanted and did what he wanted. He is self made and accomplished what many couldn’t do in multiple life times. It is sad to think that he took his own life with potentially all the demons in his life. One of my most favorite episodes was a CNN feature when David Choe the artist took Anthony to a Koreatown Sizzlers. LOL. Fuck my ass. I mean where do you take a world famous chef and food journalist who has been all over the globe right? Anthony had never been to Sizzlers and instead of being a snob about it, he embraced every moment of it. Shit was the ultra classic and my love for him grew even more for this man. I could write days about him and talk about how it will suck that I will never meet a man that inspired me in so many ways. RIP AB. Another year swiftly blows by and I am left with only traces of memories from the last year. It was all done in a blink of an eye. How did it go by so damn fast? As I inch closer and closer to my 40s, I start to think about the legacy I am leaving behind in my 30s. What did I accomplish and am I proud of what I have built? Money, sure. Relationships, sure. New adventures, sure. But above all else, what was special? I found this photo of Methuse and Calvin from a few years ago. This is my legacy. My beautiful wife with my handsome son and their relationship they have brings me the greatest joy. He talks, he talks a lot and she listens... she listens to every word, ever so patiently. Nothing beats the bond of a son and mother, but maybe that of a relationship with a daughter and father. I have no daughter, so all I can do is admire the relationship that continues to blossom between Calvin and his mother. There isn’t anything sweeter to my eyes besides great health and happiness. My life is filled with the greatest riches because I have built a life the revolves around things that matter most to me. There isn’t anything that money can buy to replace that. So thank you Lord for all of my blessings, I am truly humbled. Life is hard. Life is challenging. Life is a gift. Make all of your decisions count for something great.

It is only when we are stripped to nothing... is when we can really focus on the climb. For many of us, we have to start many climbs from the bottom throughout our lifetimes. Just cause you "made it" in one stage doesn't mean that it will carry you through the next. But when you find a way to tackle life and all it's troubles head on, you can face any climb.
