November is Men’s Mental Health Month. As someone who cares deeply about this topic and has had my own times of need, I want to use this month as a opportunity to spread a good message not just for men, but for anyone who needs it.

First, this is an everyday grind. Mental health does not come one day and leave the next. Our mental health lives in the clothes we wear, food we eat, habits we create, and the words we speak (to ourselves and others).

It’s everywhere, every day.

It’s awesome to have a Mental Health “Month,” but it’s bigger than that.

The stigma around it should also be addressed. Everyone has their own mental health battles. No one can walk through life unharmed by its uncertainty, so…

who are we to judge?

Yes, some may be more in tune with their mental health than others, but at the end of the day, everyone has to deal with burden eventually. It’s the unfortunate reality of life.

Life rhymes though. If there is an unfortunate reality, there is a fortunate reality. That fortunate reality is you’re never alone. There is ALWAYS someone who needs you here.

What makes this so hard to navigate is sometimes the person with the brightest smile is in the darkest place. It looks like they shine abundantly, but that spark is the only thing keeping them from pitch black.

And you’ll never fully feel what someone is going through. You may know, but to feel at the same level is nearly impossible. And hell, sometimes someone simply letting you know they’re going through something can lift a lot of weight off their shoulders.

Please note, at no point did I refer to mental health as being an issue, because it’s not. The stigma, and the lack of care and awareness around it is a problem, yes. But, mental health itself is a part of life any way you face it.

So, if you take anything from this post, take from it you are not alone nor abnormal. You are just living life. Your problems are never worth silence, and your life is never worth giving up.

If you need help, reach out.
If you suspect someone is struggling, don’t wait, reach out.

“I promise you, there is something worse out there than being sad. And that’s being alone and being sad”
