It's almost here. This summer, after more than 33 years, I will stop working at the Royal Academy of Arts (KABK) and retire. Last Tuesday, together with co-teacher Bjorn Staps, I taught my last Technical Skills class to the first-years. We ended with a party, without speeches but with lots of sweet and complimentary words and presents. There was beer, bitterballen and lots of fun 😊 taken in Royal Academy of Art, The Hague by @andrewvalkenburg

Five years ago, I found myself a bit fed up with photography and was looking for a new creative challenge. I had always wanted to make music, and it seemed like the right time to properly learn to play an instrument. I started taking bass lessons and, although I didn't turn out to be a natural talent, I quickly grasped the basic techniques and soon could play along with many of my favourite songs. Filled with optimism, I started looking for a band, but this proved to be difficult. Because of varying personalities and differences in musical taste, no collaboration lasted long.

From then on I decided to do everything myself. Supported by my musically inclined sons, I learned to work with DAWs, plug-ins, and interfaces. I studied drum and vocal parts from well-known hits, wrote lyrics with the help of an English-speaking cousin, and after a while, I had my first song ready: "Long-lost Dream." To stay a bit in the background myself, I created my own band using artificial intelligence: Passion & Adrian, a group of five talented and passionate musicians, each with their own background and story.

Their second track, "Sad Song," which is coming out this Sunday, is about how not to hide your blunders but embracing them instead. If you find the band interesting to follow, please click and follow @passionandadrian
