I’m thrilled to officially announce that I’ll be attending Kennesaw State University this fall to pursue a degree in Music Performance for (Trumpet)! 🎺 🎵🎶From my time at North Forsyth to NGYWS, District Honor Bands, and various summer festivals, I’m so grateful for every experience that has shaped me as a musician. A huge thank you to Mr. Thomas, Mr. Womack, Mr. Seese, Mr. Tucker, and the entire Raider Band family for your incredible support. Most importantly, I am thankful for God’s guidance throughout this journey and in leading me to KSU. I can’t wait to see what He has in store for this next chapter!

The KSU trumpet studio is excited to start introducing our newest members! The first person we will introduce is Andy Ridgway. Learn more about him below:

“Hi everyone! My name is Andy Ridgway, and I am an incoming freshman from North Forsyth High School in Cumming, Georgia. I am thrilled to join the Bailey School of Music this fall to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance for Trumpet. Over the years, I have been honored to be a member of the District 9 Honor Band consecutively (2021-2026) and the Georgia All-State Band (2022). In addition to receiving my school’s Rising Star Music Award in 2025, I am incredibly proud to be the 2026 recipient of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. During my senior year, I performed with the North Georgia Youth Wind Symphony and had the privilege of playing at the Classic Center in Athens. I served in our school’s Wind Ensemble and as Section Leader and Soloist for the marching band. I was a featured leading soloist in our school’s jazz band (which I love) for three years, marched in the 2026 London New Year’s Day Parade (playing bass drum) and performed with our school’s Indoor Drumline (WGI) for four years. I have had the privilege of growing as a musician through consistent participation in events like GMEA Midfest, GMEA JanFest, GMEA High School Experience (In-Service Conference Performance), and WGI World Competition. I have studied under the following: Raymond Thomas, Dr. Edward Anthony, Dennis Naughton, Dr. Kerry Bryant, Michael Brown, and Marquis Hardy. I am very excited to continue my musical journey with the KSU trumpet studio!

Aside from music, I am a huge sports fan and love supporting ALL of the Atlanta teams. I was a leader in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a dedicated volunteer at my church and am active with my small group. I hope to join similar Christian groups at KSU. I enjoy playing basketball, being outside with nature, and hiking.” by @andy_jly

District 9 Honor Band 2026!!!
This was my last ever district honor band. I made Seven (Counting Covid) consecutive District Honor bands in a row. I’ve seen so many people from my school make District Honor band for my four years in high school and now I’m the senior and I got to see the future of North Forsyth high school do DHB. I love everyone from North Forsyth, the Seniors, people that I remember from other schools and everyone from NGYWS. Y’all are the best and you guys made my last District Honor band so memorable. Thank you guys so much for a great and memorable time. I will miss doing DHB a lot. Y’all are AWESOME SAUCE!!!! 💜❤️ taken in Blue Ridge, Georgia by @andy_jly
