Some good news to share! I’ve been selected to be a part of the 2023 cohort for @capeusa Animation Directors Accelerator program! I’m grateful and honored to be alongside five other amazing peers in the industry @rajs_art @stulivingston @jhawkkim @honeyjuicesong @riekoga_ I am excited to learn from you all and the other amazing speakers CAPE is bringing forth to share their knowledge and experience!

CODE 8: PART II is out worldwide on Netflix today! It’s been such a fulfilling journey from the short film, to the first feature, and now the sequel. Lead by our amazing director Jeff Chan!

I got to contribute to the sequel as a Storyboard Artist and an Associate Producer alongside our talented cast and crew. As a kid, I never imagined that I would be drawing for movies, and I definitely never imagined seeing my name on the big screen in the opening title of a movie!

@code8movie has been personally and creatively fulfilling and I am so proud to be a part of it. The opportunity to work alongside the best in the business has been my film school and has allowed me to grow so much. Thank you to Jeff, Chris, and Robbie for letting me play in this sandbox again. Thank you Marie, Brian, Sophia, Steven, Heathcote, Kai, Amanda, Matthew, Michael, and Matt for letting me pick your brains and sharing your knowledge with me. It’s been a huge honor and privilege to be part of this journey with you all!

Lastly, huge thanks to my family for your support, Cousin April and Romain for being there at premiere with me, and my parents for the leap of faith you took so that I can also take a leap of faith.

Please give your support to all the hard working people behind this project and give CODE 8 and CODE 8: PART II a watch and two thumbs up on Netflix! 👍🏼👍🏼You’ll be in for a treat!

I recently had the honor and privilege of being one of the judges for Vietnam’s very first Animation IP Contest.

It was so inspiring and humbling to see all projects and meet the amazing talent behind it. I’m super grateful that the community has been so welcoming of me and I look forward to other opportunities to collaborate with them.

Growing up I never got to meet many Vietnamese artists. Even in Los Angeles, it’s a very small community in animation. But in the last 2 years I’ve got to connect with so many other Vietnamese animation artists from all over the world at Annecy and in Vietnam. It warms my heart to know that there are so many of us out there with a deep passion for animation and storytelling.

I know there will be an exciting future to come for animation in Vietnam. Everyone there is super hungry to learn and hone their craft. They’re passionate in wanting to tell their stories and share it with the world. The group photo of everyone in that room is just the tip of the iceberg of the amazing talented artists that will bring forth animation as a big force in Vietnam.

Thank you @vava_vietnam_association for the invitation and hosting such a wonderful event. Many thanks to Phúc Anh for organizing the entire event.

It took a year to arrive but finally got my Emmy contribution certificate for storyboarding! This was for Quiz Lady when we won Outstanding Television Movie in 2024! A special project that gifted me with lots of great memories :)

Last week felt like a dream! Thank you to @promisedlandart and @cdpred for organizing and hosting such an amazing and memorable festival! The staff and team went above and beyond so thank you again for uniting us through art! 💛

I am so grateful for the amazing friends I’ve met along the festival. Thank you for reminding me why we do art and it’s simply because we love it. We love what we do and have such a curiosity and passion to evolve with it and share it with others.

And thank you to the attendees for showing up to my talks and putting up with my memes 😂 Your energy was awesome so thank you so much for filling Machine Hall with your support!

Meet Andy Cung (@andybcung), one of our graduates of the 2023 class of the CAPE Animation Directors Accelerator.

Andy Cung is a freelance storyboard artist in live-action and animation. Andy has worked with several major studios: Netflix, Disney, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, Freeform, 20th Century, as well as contributed to Emmy-nominated shows: POWERPUFF GIRLS, TRASH TRUCK, and ARLO: THE ALLIGATOR BOY.

He has experience in working on all types of animated shows from script-driven, board-driven, 2D animated, and 3D animated.

He has also contributed to live-action projects such as: #QuizLady (@Hulu), #AZNBBGRL (@freeform), @code8movie: PART II, and AWKWAFINA IS @NoraFromQueens. He has written for animated shows such as #ThePowerPuffGirls and I HEART ARLO.

Because of Andy’s background in both animation and live-action it makes him very versatile as a storyboard artist and a writer.

Prior to his career in entertainment as a creative, Andy graduated from UCI with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He then worked at Broadcom for 7 years as a Device Verification Engineer. Because of Andy’s engineering experience he brings an analytical approach to creativity that he fuses with his passion for storytelling to ensure success in his work.

Thanks to @otsulabs and @khoatrinh_ for putting together a last minute free workshop within 5 days for the community before I left Vietnam. We had a wonderful turn out!

It was a huge success thanks to Khoa’s amazing team! Deepest thanks and gratitude to the attendees who packed up the place. It was truly an honor to be there and meet you all.
