NATURAL RESET: Teens stuck behind screens all day are missing a fundamental biological need. Getting them into nature is not just a nice idea. It is a biological necessity for their mental balance. 🌲

1. Science shows that even 20 minutes in green space drops cortisol levels and helps the brain reset from constant digital input.

2. Nature provides a natural sensory contrast to the flat glare of a screen which helps lower eye strain and mental fatigue.

3. Being outside forces a shift in focus that helps them regulate their nervous system before they return to their studies.

I absolutely lost it in the car with my 3 little ones earlier and now I feel horrible! The dad guilt is well and truly real and I feel every ounce of it!

I was already stressed! My wife works 4 days out of 5 so in the summer I’m generally falls on me to keep them entertained… and alive! But it’s not easy! I’m a teacher so been doing this for years but it’s day 2 of the Summer holidays and I’m already feeling it! To the women (and men) who have the majority share when it comes to looking after their kids I truly appreciate you! If you’re someone who doesn’t have their kids as much as your partner I urge you to show gratitude every now and again because it’s bloody tough out there!!

I love my kids more than anything in the world and I have chosen my career path very carefully so that I get as much time with them as possible but it does not mean than I’m not allowed to struggle!

I guess my situation is quite unique in that I’m a man and don’t have many dad friends… I don’t get to cling on to another friend and spend the day with them and their kids. I’m generally doing this on my own and that’s tough!

I’m going to go and talk it through with them now so they understand why I reacted like that because we don’t want this happening all summer… I guess this is what separates me from generations gone by… I know I’ve messed up and I will try to teach them some kind of life lesson out of it and who knows… maybe later I’ll actually try and forgive myself!

After 12 years in the classroom, I can spot a student heading for a grade 9 within 30 seconds of meeting them. It is not about raw talent. It is about how they show up.

1. They do not fully log off for the summer. They might spend 20 minutes a day on a past paper, keeping their brain sharp while everyone else is scrolling.

2. They treat bad mock results as a roadmap, not a failure. They look at the feedback, find the gap in their knowledge, and adjust their study plan immediately.

3. They are not afraid to be annoying by asking for help. They flag down teachers the second they do not understand a concept.
