FAIRMONT TOKYO: WORTH THE $1K/NIGHT?

Let’s talk about my recent stay at Fairmont Tokyo.

The regular rate can be around US$1,000 a night, but there’s a much better way to book it.

My first tip: check Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts before booking directly.

I booked through FHR and got 3 nights for the price of 2, plus:

* Breakfast for 2 every morning
* Early check-in
* Late check-out
* US$125 hotel credit to use during the stay

So if you’re going to spend that much on a luxury hotel, definitely check what perks you can get before paying the standard rate.

The views were probably my favourite part. The hotel has stunning views of Tokyo Tower, and waking up to that view definitely made the stay feel special.

For my gym people, the facilities are also worth mentioning. There’s a 24-hour gym, sauna, and both hot and cold plunge pools. After walking around Tokyo all day, the cold plunge was exactly what I needed for muscle recovery.

Second money-saving tip: don’t automatically book an Uber from Narita.

When I landed, Uber was quoting me around US$250 for the ride into Tokyo.

Instead, I checked airport transfers on Booking.com and found one for around US$80.

That’s a US$170 saving just by checking another option before booking.

So, would I stay at Fairmont Tokyo again?

Absolutely. But would I pay US$1,000 a night without checking for deals and perks first?

Probably not.

Luxury is great, but getting the luxury for less is even better.

I’ll be sharing more hotel reviews, travel tips, behind-the-scenes and little tricks I pick up along the way here. taken in Fairmont Tokyo by @andyvoeurn
