Thinking about this weekend makes me feel so fortunate. Friday, after chores, I finally got a photo of my little pookie, Poncho, who is a mini donkey. Poncho has a soft heart and loves to be with people. The day he gave me sweet face nuzzles I knew I was done for. Then today, Saturday, I took a class to improve my horsemanship skills and was partnered with Domino. Domino is both regal and stunning and then equally goofy and dog-like. He helped me gain further confidence in the ring and work on being more intentional and fully present. He also made me laugh and smile when he’d rest his head on my shoulder during lessons. For me, the neck of a horse is a place of safety and his head on my shoulder just felt magical. Animals can open our eyes to something so slight and easily missed when we quiet ourselves both inside and out. by @aneutralpalette

When your father is head of the foundation at @archildrens and one of the top fundraisers in the country you’re put to work. My friend Emma, whose family came from Auckland in a nurse exchange, and I were roped into quite a few things. I also appeared in promo videos, newspaper articles, you name it. I’m actually better for it because all of those years were perfect training to become a publicist and help with fundraising for my favorite nonprofits like @pawsinprison and @farviewhorserescue 🐶🐴. I also learned the importance of volunteering. I will always remember the sweet, sweet baby named Caleb I met as an ACH jr volunteer. This tiny little baby had spent basically his whole short life in the NICU and had the surgical scars on his tiny head to prove it. He was over 6 months but was the size of a newborn. For people who know me, you won’t be surprised that I spent extra time with Caleb every time I volunteered and I am so fortunate to have been able to do that. by @aneutralpalette

Another beautiful day at @farviewhorserescue with all of my animal friends. I saw my lady friends, aka the chickens, ducks, and the handsome rooster, Raoul. Always nice chatting with them. Then I got to spend some special time with Poncho, the newest addition to the mini donks, and this cutie! Lil Cinnamon was my partner in clicker training last weekend and made me look good. This 34 year old mini pony is a pro with the clicker and showed up the rest of the gang, at least in my humble opinion. Before I left this afternoon I sat on a bench and gave Lil Cinny some extra belly rubs and conversation. I am so grateful to have been welcomed into this rescue by some of the kindest people in rescue (in Colorado - my LA friends are some of the best in rescue on the West Coast). It’s truly amazing how much healing can be done conversing with chickens, making a clean pool for the ducks’ long weekend, and getting snugs from Poncho and Lil C 💘 #endblmroundups taken in Fairplay, Colorado by @aneutralpalette

I have waited to post about @dollyparton until I had THE perfect thing to say. Today was the last @farviewhorserescue gymkhana of the season and many riders and their horses wore pink in her honor. I knew this was exactly the way to share my love of Dolly Parton. I love her for so many reasons: she and Miss Piggy both loved each other & a high heel mule, Doralee, Steel Magnolias, amazing costumes, the voice of an angel who sits at the bar with Jesus and the hooligans, her beautiful smile, her gold hair, the best sense of humor, her feminism (again, 9 to 5 and spit roasting Mr. Hart), her nails, her music, Dollywood!!!, her love of her family & Carl, het philanthropy (her literacy program has changed lives across the globe), and her HUGE heart. Magical ✨ I usually try to visit with some of the crew after my chores and Zanga was giving serious face this day. I love my time at @farviewhorserescue more than just about anything. Being around all of the animals while mucking stalls and the runs, watering, feeding, & cleaning gives my mind an amazing sense of calm. by @aneutralpalette

Fridays are for the birds. Meet my chicken friends and Raoul the Rooster who has to stay with the ducks, Pia and Mia, because he gets all up in the girls’ business. I really do love my time with all of them, such a wonderful surprise. I gave them all names: Chuck - made sense 🤷‍♀️, Maude - my paternal great grandmother, Crooky - for one of my favorite people from college and in general, Birdie - my maternal great grandmother, Michelle Pfeiffer - when you’re gorgeous, you’re gorgeous, & Raoul - no better name for a lothario. by @aneutralpalette

Wednesday and Friday mornings I drive to @farviewhorserescue and spend my time talking with the chickens (@laura.woowoo I named one for you, stay tuned), the goats, the horses, the roosters and ducks, the mustangs, and all of the minis. Sweet Maggie got a new pair of red socks with stripes on the ankles so I told them I’d wear mine as well so we could match. To say that I love all of the animals at the rescue is an understatement (and the people are amazing as well). I never knew how much I could love chickens until they slowly began to warm up to me and now they chat and sing while I clean their coop. Today it was pouring rain for about 30 minutes of our shift and I thought, “Great! I can’t finally wear my Razorback rain poncho)!” I happily strolled through the pouring rain mucking the runs of the donkeys and actually had to be told it was time to go. I feel so fortunate to be able to volunteer with these amazing women and the menagerie of animals. And don’t forget #stopblmroundups. Took a little break from the socials to enjoy the magical space around me and get to know my chicken friends better. It’s been a great summer being able to be around all of my animal and human friends at @farviewhorserescue and around town. On the grad school side, welp, I can say I know how to do the paperwork for federal and state investigations and have maintained a 4.0 in the midst of utter chaos. I’ve got some big things in the pipeline that I’m excited about and will be sharing more in the coming days and weeks. Had to get that weight unloaded to restore my calm, happiness, and ambition 🦂 taken in Colorado by @aneutralpalette
