Holy Spirit wanted me to know what the rod and staff stand for. Here's what I learnt.

Why are the rod and staff two different things and not one? I always thought they were, but they aren't. The ROD represents correction, and the STAFF represents support.

Though verse 4 also talks about the valley of the shadow of death, we shouldn't limit God's presence to only the circumstances life has to offer. God is always with us; Matthew 28:20b - "'and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.' Amen."

So, how is God with us?

ROD: a short and solid club or baton used for protection, discipline, or defence. It symbolises authority, correction, and strength. In shepherding: the rod is used to keep predators away and to guide or correct sheep.

What does this mean? In the midst of your happiness or sadness, as long as God is the authority over you, He is your strength; He will protect you from the enemy, and He will correct your ways.

STAFF: It is longer, usually with a curve at the top (crook). It is for support, guidance, and rescuing. It symbolises comfort, leadership, and care. In shepherding, the staff helps the shepherd pull sheep out of danger, support them while walking, and gently guide the flock.

What does this mean? When life hits you hard or when you achieve a goal, remember God is the support of every kind in your walk with Him. He is gently guiding and keeping you out of danger because we tend to orchestrate the very thing that could become our dark valley.

Here's the beauty about these words: in the Hebrew language, rod and staff are masculine and feminine nouns, respectively. And figuratively, rod means tribe while the staff means sustenance.

It's wonderful to know that God is in the people we call our own, our people, our tribe, and this is how He works with them to sustain you. It further proves how much God wants no one to be alone.

God, in His omnipresence, will always work through your circle. So the next time you remember this verse, you could think about it this way: even though I am in the most dire of circumstances, I will fear nothing; For God is with me; Your protection, discipline, guidance and care comfort me. by @angel_e0317

I used to struggle to understand this scripture. But the more time I spend with Holy Spirit, the clearer it gets. And God, in His mercy, has been so kind to reveal teachers I have gleaned from.

It was never about standing still idle; it's about putting God first in ALL things.

For every decision, God has to be considered first; every conversation, every thought, every action... EVERY SINGLE THING.

This isn't easy to do, but God has already told us it's not by power or might but by His Spirit.

That should give us peace when we feel overwhelmed.

Ask God when you pray, "What does it look like to seek you first today?" And expect His response.

When it comes to showing mercy to those who have offended you, Holy Spirit will drop this in you and you have no choice than to obey. by @angel_e0317

There's a reason why we should study the word of God (2 Timothy 2:15). But do we seek knowledge to win arguments or do we seek knowledge to empower people, in this case do we seek God to tell people about Him.

Are we so passive with our walk with God that we don't want to talk to anyone about Him. That we want to live "right" and "hope" people see Jesus in our lives while staying mute.

If Jesus stayed mute, will we be here? If Jesus is indeed good, why haven't you told anyone about Him? It's time to actively live in Christ and TALK about Him. by @angel_e0317
