I used to think being a good mum meant giving everything to my kids. So I made sure every meal was home-cooked.

But constantly thinking about
what to cook next,
what ingredients to buy,
is the food nutritious enough,
how to make food my kids would actually eat,
and cooking 3x meals a day
could feel exhausting some days. Not to mention the food they refused to eat.😅

Now, I no longer force myself to be perfect in every aspect of motherhood. Some days, I get takeaway or even order McDonald’s, and I know that’s okay.

Because not being able to do everything ourselves doesn’t mean we’re not good mums. We can have low days, and needing a little convenience doesn’t mean we love our kids any less.

1️⃣Aesthetics alone won’t gain you followers.

I used to stay up until 1am perfecting my carousels, only to get 20 views and no new followers.

I’ve learned that a strong hook and valuable content matter more than making every post look perfect.

2️⃣Every post has a purpose. Once it’s posted, move on.
I used to check my insights every five minutes. When the numbers were low, I felt overwhelmed and questioned whether I should continue.

Now, I focus on what I want each post to achieve. Once it’s posted, its job is done and to move on to the next one.

3️⃣Record your daily life, even the small moments.
Those moments may not seem worth capturing, but over time they become a library of B-rolls.

On busy or low-energy days, I use that footage to create a simple post with the message I want to convey without starting from scratch.

4️⃣You don’t need perfect equipment or the perfect moment to start.
I used to think I needed the best gadgets, proper lighting, a tripod and complete silence without my kids around before creating content.
Now, I mostly use my iPhone and record on the go. Do first,perfect it later.

5️⃣Your own pace is the key to preventing burnout.
Posting daily may work for some people, but as a mum of two with limited time and no backup support, it quickly became overwhelming.

I tried posting every day for 30 days and ended up burnt out,(*twice) while the quality of my content suffered.

Now, I’m choosing a pace that works for my life, not someone else’s.Because content creation is something I want to build alongside motherhood, not something that takes me away from it.

10 years ago, I used to post on Instagram the moments with joy, even if the photos are raw...
But now everything needs to be analysed before getting the post out there. And somehow it took some fun out of it.

So I try searching the joy back, 10mins with whats in my mind now and click the 'post' button. No Chatgpt,no rechecking,no waiting for the perfect angle to video.

Let's normalise the raw moments of ourselves back,it's ok that they're not perfect! What you think?

Being a stay-at-home mum for 5 years made me feel like I was being left behind.

Hearing about my friends getting promoted and earning higher incomes while I was still financially dependent on my husband made me wonder if I had made the right decision.

But looking back, what I gained may not have been financial independence or a professional title. It was something no job or title could ever give back to me: time with my kids.

And along the way, I also realised that I didn't just want to be a mum. I wanted to be a person who could build something of my own too.

We don't have to measure our progress against someone else's life. We just have to focus on becoming a little better than who we were yesterday.

We all have our own timelines and priorities. And just because our paths look different doesn't mean we're falling behind.

Sometimes,motherhood can be hard and exhausting.

Not about being the mother, but it's about the never ending laundry, to n fro pickups,dealing with meltdowns,be the one that present when they need you...

I once thought being a good mum means giving all in, but I lose myself along the path.

Now I realised motherhood is just a phase,and you NEED to be yourself first,only to be a mum,a wife,a daughter or other roles in the path of your life.

So now I get myself a space whenever I feel overwhelmed or just to recharged by doing things that I love.

If you're tired of being everyone's everything, you're not alone. Maybe try taking one small space for yourself today will do the trick♥️

From the outside, being a stay-at-home mum looks like having more free time.

But what people don't see is the 6am rush every morning, the daily laundry for the whole family, the multiple pick-ups and drop-offs...

Somehow, the free time people expect turns into fragmented pieces of time.

And what I've learned the most in motherhood is,
There is only endless chores and I have to make the decision to prioritise myself. If I wait until everything is done, me-time never comes.

So I make space first, even if it's just a drink on a bench.

You don't have to choose between being a mum and being yourself.

| used to spend hours switching between apps every time I create my contents.
I tried various different apps, downloaded the edited photos, upload in another app for video editing, then another for subtitles input..

And before posting them out, it is time for school pick up.
But, you don't have to go for the long way like me.

Here are the 4 apps that I will stick to and still using most of the time now that save me hours in creating my content. And yes, I am still using the free version for most of them.

1. Edits app - for simple editing reels eg. b-rolls+text
2. Capcut - for long form videos and videos with more complexity and effects.
3. Canva - mainly for carousels.
4. In-built Phone editor - I used to download lightroom and other apps for the filters but inbuilt editing is more than enough. Mainly adjust brightness, exposure and saturation will do.

Just a mum who was too busy taking care of everyone else to be in the picture.

Maybe that’s why so many of our favourite memories have no photos of us in them. But you know they worth it!

I grew up believing that a woman without her own income could lose her independence.

So, I kept trying to prove to myself that I’d made the right decision.

But motherhood didn’t always look the way I imagined.
And somewhere along the way, I started thinking:
“I promised I’d be there for them. Am I really?”
“Did I make the right choice?”

But when I started creating content, I started documenting the little moments too.
And when I looked back, I realised

I was there.
Every single time.

I also realised I had actually come a long way.

Maybe not financially.

But I had gained skills, knowledge, a different mindset, and lessons from people I never thought I’d have the chance to learn from.
And these are the things that my children see in me.

Maybe I don’t have to prove that I made the right decision.
Maybe I just have to create a life where I don’t have to choose between being a mum and being myself.

I used to hear from the older generation saying that kids can grow up fine without you hovering.And that independence matters more.

And honestly,some days I think they're right. And I'm the person that once think that I will not be a stay at home mum,never!

But now,here I am. 5 years SAHM of 2.
Then I remember why I chose to be here in the first place.

Not because I think they can't survive without me.
Not because I don't believe in independence.
But because I didn't want to miss it.

The meals. The small moments. The version of them that only shows up when no one's rushing.

Staying home was never about pampering.
It was about choosing to be there for it not just providing for it.

And now I realised you don't lose yourself by being a mum.
You just pause to be fully there, for a season.
