Approximately 29ish years ago, one of my favorite people was born! And somewhere along those 29ish years, I was lucky enough to meet her and an instant friendship was born! In the early years, time spent with her was all about shenanigans and fun, and boy did she know how to deliver! Some of my zaniest moments were experienced with her, and are now buried deep in the vault of our (thankfully, fading) memories!

But amongst the shenanigans, and through the years, we have stood with each other through so many big and little life moments- relationships, marriage, illnesses, breakups, divorce, parents getting sick, parents dying, children growing up, graduations, children moving out, grandkids being born, promotions, job losses, homes bought, homes sold, moves, vacations, and so many more big and little life moments. So many people have moved in and out of my life in the nearly two decades that she’s been a part of it, but my guaranteed constant has been her.

People often use the phrase help-me-bury-a-body to describe a friend who would literally do anything for you. But I have no doubt whatsoever, that if I called Danielle and told her that I needed her to help me bury a body, that her only reply would be- “Let me get my boots on.” And she would show up with shovels and snacks, tissues just in case I need them, a gun in case he has an unruly friend that also needs a dirt nap, perfectly crafted cocktails, and some MacGyver type contraption that she bought on Amazon that can dig the hole for us (while we drink our cocktails, eat our snacks and use the tissues) that folds up and fits into her purse once done. And once the body was gone she’d never tell a soul about it, never bring it up again, and have me feeling safe again before sunrise.

I literally hit the friendship jackpot. They just don’t get any better.

And since she is turning 29ish today, please help me celebrate this amazing gal, my bestie, Danielle Thurston! “I love ya more than my luggage!” I hope that this year brings you so much joy, prosperity, love and goodness. Cheers to almost being 30ish! by @angelamkenney

How exactly do you describe the feeling of nearly losing a child to an invisible monster… the fear, the worry, the agony… the trauma of wondering every second of every day what the next moment will bring? That was my life starting back in 2017. The monster was Fentanyl and it had its hooks in my beautiful, brilliant and big-hearted then 15 year old daughter. It was brutal. I clung to hope, and to faith, and to my love for her, because there wasn’t really much else to cling to. But honestly, even hope and faith had dimmed. For six agonizing years, the monster kept finding her.

Deep down inside, I really thought I was going to lose her.

But, by the Grace of God, this isn’t a sad story. This is a story of redemption and conquering one of the hardest things that can be conquered. This is a story of a mother PROUD of her daughter, who gets to brag on how far she’s come and how much hard work and determination and resilience she has had to pour into her comeback story. You see, today marks *1,000* days clean for my sweet girl! To say this feels like a miracle is an understatement. I’ve literally watched my daughter re-birth herself from the ashes of her former self. And I think that’s worth celebrating.

We chose together, early on, to be transparent and honest and vocal about her disease of addiction, even knowing that there would be people who would judge. I felt deep in my soul that in order to beat the monster that she would need the support and love of her community, just as any other person battling a life threatening disease needs. I also knew that WHEN she beat it, that she would become a powerful voice of HOPE for other addicts, and that her story would save lives. Both of those are now true. Yet, unfortunately, the disease of addiction still carries a heavy stigma and therefore so many addicts don’t receive the love and support that is absolutely necessary in order to beat it. I hope my daughter can play some small role in fixing that.

No one chooses addiction.
It chooses them.

Help me celebrate my @ashleighhaldeman_ today for 1,000 days of slaying the monster! You are the strongest gal that I know!
