I took pictures of my food (in Ubud)

I spent August in Ubud, and spent more time eating than anything else. Ubud can lead one down a predictable path, but it offers plenty of deliciousness and creativity. There is much more than smoothie bowls!

1. Fu Shou Noodle Club @fushounoodleclub - yummy spicy noodle bowls

2 & 7. Powder Room @powderroom_r4d - I was obsessed with the beignets, especially the brûlée-topped one.

3. Double Dragon Temple @doubledragontemple - Thai street food that is smack-your-lips (and the table) delicious

4. Begawan Biji @begawanbiji - farm-to-table restaurant that is on the farm in the middle of rice fields

5. Room 4 Dessert @r4d_room4dessert - I can’t do this place justice; it was such a cool experience. Tasting menu with 15 dishes: a third is savoury, and the rest is dessert.

6. Mai Organic @maiorganicfarmbali Pa Kadek runs cooking tours at their regenerative community farm—a true taste of authentic Bali.

For anyone who wants to dig deeper I've uploaded more addresses on Amigo. @amigo_app

Cheers!

Outtakes from something I did with @lydiarobertsphoto this year (more on that later). But I think I like portraits with closed eyes more than portraits with open eyes now. 😌 by @angelealberti

Some lovely memories from the conversation I moderated with Sophie Green about her solo exhibition “Tangerine Dreams” at the Martin Parr Foundation. It was a little bit of a pinch-me moment to both celebrate Sophie’s work in that way and also to see the foundation for the first time as I’ve been an admirer of Martin’s work and legacy. Meeting the wonderful team and seeing the studio with its huge archive of books and photographs was so special. Thanks so much for having me! @sophiegreenstudio @martinparrfdn by @angelealberti

Jack Davison: On Photography & Staying True to Oneself 💫

Our Season Finale, Episode 7 is live now wherever you get your podcasts.

In this episode of What We Make, we sit down with photographer Jack Davison @jackdavisonphoto whose dreamlike images have made him one of today’s most sought-after creatives in both art and fashion.
From his breakout commission with The New York Times to collaborations with Vogue, Dazed, Hermès, Burberry, and The Row, Jack’s career has been defined by instinct, curiosity, and a refusal to follow a single path. His photographs—whether portraits, architecture, or everyday objects—reveal the surreal in the ordinary through chiaroscuro, abstraction, and a cinematic eye.
Together, we trace his journey into photography, explore the role of honesty and play in creative work, and reflect on what it means to evolve as an artist while staying true to yourself.
This is a conversation about process, perseverance, and the unexpected ways creativity unfolds.

💥Maya Golyshkina: On Breaking the Rules 💥

Episode 5 is live now wherever you get your podcasts.

Maya Golyshkina @_themaiy_ is a self-taught, Russian-born performance artist who didn’t wait for the perfect materials or the perfect moment to start creating. From her bedroom in Moscow, she began building handmade sets and surreal images using whatever she could find from cling film, cardboard, even eggs. Her playful, unpolished works soon caught the eye of fashion houses like Marc Jacobs and Balenciaga, launching a practice rooted in resilience, resourcefulness, and a refusal to wait for permission.
We talk about growing up under pressure, the power of satire, and how humour can be a radical creative force.

♟️Harri KS: Redefining Proportions & Shades of Black

Episode 3 is live now wherever you get your podcasts.

In this episode, we’re joined by Harri KS, the London-based designer and artist behind Let’s Put Him in a Vase, the viral MA collection that reimagined menswear with sculptural, inflatable silhouettes. Born in Kerala, Harri’s practice is anything but surface-level. It’s rooted in global craftsmanship, material innovation, and a deep interrogation of the body as both subject and medium.
We unpack the journey from South India to Central Saint Martins and dive into how Harri has shaped his identity through making, transforming challenges like colour blindness into creative catalysts. This conversation is a reminder that while vision might go viral, it’s the discipline, collaboration, and craft behind the scenes that truly make it soar.
